Sore shoulder

I am on holiday and for past week I haven’t run because I seem to have done something to my shoulder and it is v sore. Will go to doc when I get home but am now very fed up with not running. Does anyone have any experience of bad shoulders and running (slowly not v far). Trying to decide whether I should just give it a go anyway? Thank you

Decided to try it. Figured that the thing hurting my shoulder most seemed to be being in bed (or on the couch 😂) so running couldn’t do too much damage. Hurt a bit but less than in bed and I feel a million times better after my leisurely 30 min run. Will see what doc says next week but for now will keep running gently.

That's good. Glad you got your run in.

Hope the doc says it's nothing that'll put you on the IC

Really hope not 😬. Hopefully something physio can sort out quickly. Or possibly even just wake up one day and it’s better 🙄

I had a frozen shoulder eventually requiring surgical intervention. Got told off for not presenting earlier which might have avoided the frankly shockingly awful procedure. My thoughts: go to the doctors as soon as possible. Don’t wait. And keep it moving gently. So have a slow run or a walk even moving it as you usually would. Good luck!

😮. That sounds awful. I will def go to doc next week, as it really doesn’t feel right at all. Was your frozen shoulder worst in the morning? Hoping it is nowhere near as bad as that and can get it sorted quickly. But helpful to know I am unlikely to make it worse through gentle running. Is your shoulder all ok now? Thanks for messaging.

It was worse after not doing anything with it, sitting still for long periods etc. Eventually, it would wake me up if I turned onto it in the night. I had arthrographic hydrodilatation and then physio therapy and now it’s perfectly fine. But if ever I have a slight twinge I move it, move it, move it!

(All my own fault for neglecting it!)

Have been trying to move it as much as possible today after reading your reply. My teenage boys have been laughing at me swinging my arms about as we have been walking. 😂

Excellent! Use swinging arm to clip their ears!!

Made it to doc today. Sent me for X-ray and blood tests and appointment with physio so covering all bases. Meanwhile have stronger pain killers so I can (hopefully) sleep. Can keep running though 😊

Excellent result. A thorough check. And still running!

Just about every morning, I wake up feeling like I've been mugged in my sleep by Orcs brandishing broom handles. But - I get out of bed and everything is fine after I have my coffee.

It's very difficult sometimes to differentiate between "ignorable general aches and pains' and when the body is sending out an SOS.

Two years ago I had a "sharp but little" pain in my hip. I went running, it got sharper, I kept running, it got a bit sharper, I was in a charity race so I kept running because it was SHARP but "only little".

My hip dislocated. Four months of darn painful physical therapy, missed an event I had been training all year for...and a new appreciation for my body and the depths of my stupid pride.

If it gets worse, or simply doesn't go away, please don't be the idiot I was. It was a not-nice feeling to be at an event I had spent ten months eagerly looking forward to and training for but then having to watch from the sidelines holding my walking stick in a death grip.

As always in this running lark - take it slow and steady and keep it enjoyable.

Wishing you many pain-free miles in your future :)

Ouch! That sounds nasty. Running starting to feel like a dangerous game. Will def get this checked out if still sore early next week. Having just got going with the running would hate to have to stop it (and don’t know how I would find the motivation to start again!). Well done you for perservering despite such a horrid injury!
