I think I have picked up an ankle injury as the ache that I started with isn't really going away. I can put weight on and it isn't a sharp pain as such- just an ache I can feel all the time and burn and a little stiff . I am really upset as had been so careful with my knees not to over do it. My question is...what type of cross training do you think I could do whilst I'm resting it? (I realise that no one is a doctor but would appreciate the advice from people more experienced than me with running ) thankyou.

Sore ankle
Sorry to hear about this 😢 You are very wise to step back from running for a while.
The best idea for cross training is to choose something you enjoy that won't stress your ankle. Cycling and swimming are possibilities since you are off your feet for both, although you'd have to try them out to be sure. If you are comfortable walking I definitely recommend you do that.
Also you should think about strength work. As you are injured it would be best to see a physiotherapist if possible. They will be able to assess your problem and give you some exercises to help address it.
Good luck, and keep us posted! xxx
Thank you for your reply. I am thinking of asking for an early xmas present and getting an excercise bike for home. I am not a brilliant swimmer and am on a very tight budget ( surprised how much it costs to swim!)
I am so sad as I am running for not only fitness but to help my mental health.
Gosh yes, it is very expensive!
What about walking though? Is it too painful?
I can walk on it. It just feels tight and stiff with a weird ache.
I wonder if walking would be your best option until it starts to feel better - if you enjoy walking anyway! I don't want you to feel sad xxx
The exercise bike would be a good cross training option, but not much of a substitute for getting out in the air and moving your ankle.
All that said, you should really be consulting a GP first of all.
Thank you so much for your concern. I will definitely aim to walk for a while (no possibility of early xmas present according to hubby)
If it doesn't improve in a week I will book in with doctor...will take a few weeks to get in to see them . Xx
Being on ankle IC, I would really recommend going to a physio that wld give you a specific diagnosis and training programme. It turns out that i have a weak ankle so have very gentle exercises for now and general abs stuff. She really recommended yoga and pilates. You could also try swimming. Good luck
Sorry to hear that I know how disappointing it is especially when you have tried so hard not to over do it.
Yoga is great and as Roseabi said walking as well. I know it’s not the same but at least you’re out in the fresh air.
Take it easy and get well soon.
