First thought this morning.

I woke up this morning before my alarm at 6:30 am. First thought 💭 in my head was that it was Friday and parkrun is tomorrow. I’ve officially become a 45 year old geek. 🤓

I think a full geek would lay out parkrun kit on a Thursday evening! In any case, better than remembering at 8.30 on Saturday 😧

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply toHeavyFoot

If I start putting out my running gear on a Thursday night for parkrun my wife will leave me. She already thinks I’m nuts as she heard me refer to Friday as parkrun eve. 😂😂😂🤓🤓🤓

Marvellous! I would write more but I’m polishing up my parkrun barcode. 😎

I did mine this evening before going to bed x

Enjoy your parkrun tomorrow Damien, perhaps you will get a PB, I am not running one tomorrow but will be running next Saturday 27th July.

NENDY stands for Nearest Event Not Done Yet. So that’s what I’m doing tomorrow morning, some parkrun tourism to do my NENDY with my 10 years old Son. Nice 28-29 minute 5k, no PB attempt and of course breakfast in a local Cafe afterwards.

When I was checking Parkrun cancellations recently, I noticed that Dunfermline have a cancellation soon but can't remember which date... You might just want to double check, AlMorr.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toDebston

There were two recent cancellations at Dunfermline, on the 22 of June and the 6th July, those cancellations were due to special events taking place in the park, as far as I know, there are no further cancellations due, I would get a notification if there was as Dunfermline is my home parkrun.

I just had a look at the Portrush Parkrun, it's a beach along the side of the sea that the run takes place, if its high tide, the runners are actually running in the sea on some parts of the course. 😊 🏃

Debston profile image
DebstonGraduate10 in reply toAlMorr

Wow, that sounds amazing, off to Google Portrush Parkrun... And just checked the Parkrun cancellation because it was bugging me - it's the 3 August one,due to a "Defend Fife" event!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toDebston

Thanks for that information Debston, I wasn't going to run on that particular day..

Debston profile image
DebstonGraduate10 in reply toAlMorr

I keep checking the Parkrun site to see if they have added one nearer to Applecross which is where I am staying in Scotland in August... The nearest one looks to be hours away so I don't think I will be able to fulfil my dream of doing a Scottish Parkrun on holiday.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toDebston

That's a pity Debston, Applecross is a lovely place but it's a bit far from the nearest parkrun which I think is Inverness..

Great eh.... :) I still put my gear out the night before any run and get excited tummy bump butterflies when I do it:)

It's wonderful!

I’m the same, but only for races or new Parkruns. I get very excited, I’m like a kid going on a School tour.😂

I'm chuckling about this as my husband lays out his gear for tomorrow. Not park run, but a nice 100km cycle ride. He's playing it cool and pretending not to be excited 😆

I have finally registered for parkrun, so who knows, this time next year I might actually do one😊

😂 It took me about 3 years from registration and I SO wish I had gone sooner. Give it a go!

Occasionally, like now, with all the enthusiasm that folk have for parkrun I do look again at where they are near me, but the social anxiety aside they are all a half hour drive with rather dull courses... maybe I should try to start my own! 🤣🤣

Deals1 profile image
Deals1Graduate10 in reply toGoGo_JoJo

Hi. Try one if u can...

Although I may feel differently about mine if it was a bit of a drive. But I'm lucky just a 10/15 min warm up walk

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoGraduate10 in reply toDeals1

I would be more inclined to try if one were just a walk away for sure 👍🏻

BaddieThePirate profile image
BaddieThePirateGraduate10 in reply toGoGo_JoJo

I drive 20 mins and it's worth it!

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply toGoGo_JoJo

I’m going to one tomorrow which is 40 minutes away because I’ve never done it before. It will be my 45th parkrun. My local parkrun is 5 mins away.

It’s worth the drive and it’s always great fun.

I’ve just realised I’m a geek too. I was supposed to go to my grandsons birthday party tomorrow morning so had to miss Parkrun but my daughter told me I didn’t have to come! OMG I had to try really hard not to look deliriously happy as I realised I could do Parkrun after all. And I don’t even care that it’s likely to be in a thunderstorm! Mad. 😂

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply toKnittingrunner

I understand totally KR! Tomorrow is my daughter’s baby shower and it’s being held at our house ....... luckily I have time to do PR first! I was mildly panicky at first! 😅😅

Haha. Totally understand!!

I'm going away tomorrow and debating if I can squeeze In parkrun before!! 😂

Enjoy it

Happy running 🏃

Ps I don't really know how this happened to me!!

damienair profile image

Hello Decker. My long run day is Sunday morning at 8am. I sometimes meet up with a run group and do about 10 to 12k. ( short run to you 😀). I’ve agreed to play Tennis after my run on Sunday, think I might have bitten off more than I can chew.

Ooh, you must be excited about doing your 50th! I did number 47 today and I’m planning to have a pirate 🏴‍☠️ theme for my 50 next month.

Have fun on yours

You lot have got me wondering if I should try our local park run .. anyone here from Chippenham?

I’m a fully paid up member of this exciting club, just did Letchworth today (my number 10 and 7th different one) and don’t even care that my face was the colour of a postbox for a good hour afterwards. I’m currently thinking of taking a half day Friday so I can drive early to my parents up North to fit a new one in!!

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply toAnneep

It is addictive Anneep. 7 different runs out of 10 is good.

JaoJao profile image
JaoJaoGraduate10 in reply toAnneep

I did my 7th Parkrun today and have been going to my home Parkrun since the start (it’s 2 minute walk! So convenient) I want to do Parkrun touring when I’ve established an average run time! Well done you on exploring other Parkruns from the get go! X

Anneep profile image
Anneep in reply toJaoJao

Thank you, I’m lucky that in Hertfordshire there are quite a few within easy reach and in nearby counties too. I have found that every single one I go to has the same friendly ethos and only wish I’d started last year! I found what I love about it most is that warmth of the welcome, the encouragement, the smiles, the awe inspiring things you see - people overcoming the odds - I never fail to be inspired,

Mimirossi profile image

I am a real weirdo, as I get excited for volunteering at my parkrun! 🤣

Anneep profile image
Anneep in reply toMimirossi

Great stuff - now I’m on my 10th I MUST do that!

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply toMimirossi

I’m trying to do 5 runs and 1 Volunteer ratio. I’ve done 45 Parkruns and 13 Volunteer days. I also love Volunteering. I’m going to be doing barcode scanning next week.

Thank you. Had a lovely parkrun this morning at a new course. It was an out and back along a canal, so flat and lovely scenery. I did it with my 10 year old Son. We did a nice 27 minute finish followed by a lovely breakfast. Mmmmmm.
