In this 50th anniversary week of the first moon landing I thought Iβd misquote! I originally set off on Wednesday to attempt 13k but after only 2k it was obvious I wasnβt going to make it, as it was far too hot. The weather forecast for today was much more favourable and sure enough a thick blanket of cloud, a light breeze and a little drizzle. Never thought Iβd consider that to be perfect weather, but I did today. Set off to do the same route as last week but soon realised that I would have to do a short circular route back home otherwise it could all have ended rather badly. So after a loo stop, I set off back on my 8.5 k out and back route. At around 11k it felt as though my left hip was seizing up so I slowed down and gently jogged the last 2k. Result 13.26k in 1 hour 34 and an average pace of 7:09, which is 1 second per km faster than my 12kπππ Dexy5 and Beachcomber66 Iβm back with you. No parkrun for me tomorrow thank goodness as going to fetch a friend from Stansted airport and I think I might just take a few days off! Happy running πββοΈ ππ»ββοΈ
One small step for woman, one giant leap tow... - Bridge to 10K
One small step for woman, one giant leap towards 10 miles ππββοΈ
Well done Sandie, youβre definitely on your way to 10 miles, and your pace is fantastic. A lot quicker than me (no surprise there!) π Your badge is being shined in readiness! π πββοΈπ
I hope your hip is ok. Maybe a gentle pootle is next on the cards for you. I have PR tomorrow and some gentle mixed terrain 5ks planned for next week, then Iβm going to follow in UpTheStanley βs footsteps and go for 18k the week after next. Waaaaa! It had better not be too hot! π€π€π€
Thanks Cheeky! Iβm sure my hip will be ok after a bit of stretching. One of the risks of a completely flat run I guess - you get stuck in the same position while you run. Our friend is staying with us until Thursday, so Iβm not sure if Iβll get out for a run until next Friday (well maybe a little one early morning one day!) Got some nice sightseeing trips out planned though with lots of walking. 18k sounds such a long way, but I know youβll do it. The week after next is probably a good idea because theyβre saying itβs going to be hot again next week π₯΅
Gosh I never thought of that with flat runs. I suppose itβs because I donβt often do them. Even my long towpath route is mildly undulating. It makes sense though, your body doing the same thing for a long time.
Enjoy your time with your friend. It might be just what the doctor ordered anyway. π
Well if the next heatwave extends into that week after next I may need to reschedule my 18k. Not a chance I could run that far in the heat. π₯΅ Yesterdayβs 7k was bad enough with the high humidity. Us runners seem to love grey, cool and drizzly! π
Well done Sandie! π You were determined to make it, despite those gremlins making it too hot on Wednesday, and poking your hip today!
Super distance, you must be chuffed to bits with that time too! π
I hope your recover well, with a few days rest before starting your next mission!ππxxx
πππππππͺπͺ. Yay Sandie, excellent run and a great pace too. Very wise to pick your day and take a good rest afterwards. For a variety of reasons, including a long migraine, today was the first time out since my 13k last Friday. I stuck to a "normal" paced 5k and have survived without injuryπ€. Interesting that your hips protested a bit; the same happened to me last week....I am looking for a strengthening exercise to add to the daily list! Les trois mousquetaires are now together at the same distance... unless Dexy5 is out for a sneaky run even now π
Wouldnβt it be fantastic if you could all schedule your 10 mile runs on the same day? What a huge virtual party that would be! πππππ
Ooh thatβs an idea. Guess it depends on our plans (that assumes of course that we have plans and are not just making it up as we go alongπGuilty!) Iβm thinking early September as 12k last week and 13k this week feels a bit of a stretch so am going to leave 2 weeks between long runs for the remaining ones. Dexy5 Beachcomber66
Would it be wrong for me to join the party if it happens, and run 10 miles with you all? I promise not to take any of the accolades? You know how I get raging FOMO?! π©π
Always welcome cheeky if we can fix it!! See my response to Sandie. Guess that would make you dβArtagnan .. team captainπ©ββοΈ π
Thanks BC! Funny how 5k now feels like a short run isnβt it? I guess itβs to be expected that longer runs will put extra pressure on the joints, but taking it gently means we should get away with only temporary discomfort. Iβm considering booking a PT session at the gym when I get back from my next trip to France to get a strengthening workout to help my running and for some upper body toning, as that has been somewhat neglected since last year. I might just have a week break anyway if only because our friend is staying with us until Thursday and it doesnβt feel quite right to go out for a run leaving him at home alone. Lots of trips out and walking planned though. βAll for one and one for allβ πββοΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈ
All for one and one for all, but I will be lagging behind you speedsters.
πββοΈπββοΈ........πββοΈ
Nope! Sandie is quickest. My 12k was 7:29 and 13k 7:49!πππ
If we can schedule all on the same day, that would be great, and of course cheeky would be welcome!! Might be a tall order though with life getting in the way so often, but letβs see how it looks when (if in my case!!) we reach 15k?
Iβve gone and entered the Great South Run now thanks to Cheeky and Dexy so I have to get there π¬ As you say, letβs see how it goes!
Well done Sandie πββοΈππͺ sounds a great run. Not too far until the next milestone π
Keep an eye on the hip and stretch and roll plenty.
Whoopie - Iβve been missing a party while sorting out domestics. No definitely not sneaking in a long run, Iβm saving myself for a parkrun in a Thunderstorm tomorrow. πββοΈβ‘οΈ
Congratulations Sandie and welcome to the 13k club musketeer. You were wise to delay it to a cooler day. I jeffed some of mine so Iβm not worthy in your presence and need to repeat it before moving on. So no rush Sandie and Beachcomber66 ,
I think I will be taking a week off between the really long ones too So only 2 a month for me. Only???? π¬
It would be great to all do the 10 miles virtually together with cheekychipmunks , just have to see how we progress. No pressure, my deadline is end of October after all.
Iβm glad itβs not just me who feels the urge to have a little diversion visit during the run. I go before leaving home, but I think the action of running or the flip belt round my waist makes me want to go again. So annoying.
Have a restful afternoon before your friend arrives Sandie .
πββοΈππππΎπ₯
Thanks fellow musketeer π Only 2 a month indeed. Bonkers! Iβm not in a great hurry to complete, as long as I do one 10 miler before 20 October, so that I know what it feels like. Only 3k to go and then I think but that's almost 2 more miles but also itβs less than 2 parkrun laps. Messing with my head ππ³π¬
Thanks Dexy5 ! I love being part of a team. Would UpTheStanley like to join the party? ππ
Havenβt you got some baking or something to do for your baby shower, woman ππ€£π

Iβve just come back from picking up some odds and sods but basically weβre all sorted! Itβs being catered and thereβs a marquee in the garden as I speak - itβs more work (and expense) then a wedding it seems!!
But yes, youβre right! Iβd better unload the shopping! π π π
I think itβs highly likely that UpTheStanley will be in the vicinity when Iβm doing my first 10 miles , so maybe we should invite him. It will give Beachcomber66 some male company too , Especially while we are making diversions to the loo π

Great run...great pace ... wow !
I do, as you know find flat really hard...( your reply to Cheeky... ) It seems so much easier with an incline , it is weird... !
Listen to that hip and give it some TLC.... Enjoy your friend's visit and be kind to yourself xxx
Thanks Floss! On the longer runs Iβm starting to think that a bit more undulating might just be better π³ Still, back to France and hills in just over a week!
Lovely stuff! I am so envious of France... I cannot wait until we are able to head there next year You are so, so lucky
For me.. and for a few of us, the hills do help
We are heading to the Coast on Thursday again... and have twelve days rest and running I hope ( Mama and Dada are covering our caring days with small one x
Well done on your run - it has definately been better weather for runnning today so definately a good call to get your 13k in the bag! π I am hoping it stays cool for tomorrow too, although I am having a drop- back, short run this weekend (probablyπ) following my 13k last weekend.
Thatβs odd...I have been suffering with left hip pain and stiffness for the last couple of weeks then, after I managed my 10 miles on Wednesday, it has gone completely. So much so that I had managed to book a sports massage with my favourite lady Emma for today and I let my daughter have that spot instead of enjoying it myself.
She has been suffering for a few weeks and says she feels so much better now that I feel good for having done her a good turn. I now have to wait until August 16th for mine βΉοΈ
Great job πππͺπββοΈ
Wooohoooo. Not far off it now π π π πππ
Great progress - one step closer to your goal indeed! Sounds like your visitor is coming at the right time to give you a few days off and rest your hip. Enjoy!
Fantastic. Thereβs no way now that 10 miles isnβt going to happen. Really brilliant running. You should be so pleased with yourself. Make sure you rest that hip though. The weatherβs supposed to be a tad warm this week. Iβve heard talk of 32, so only gently jogs I think, with gallons of water! A good reason to take it easy. ππ
