It started out as quite a nice sunny morning so I thought maybe the canal towpath would be a good running route today. I guess I should have known with the rain last night it was going to get messy. Its difficult to access how bad it is starting off as there are proper paths but as you get further along its a mixture of grass and mud. By the time I had got to the turnaround point the sun had gone and things were getting decidedly squelchy plus the wind was now blowing towards me but I turned around after just over 4k and headed back. All in all a good run and it got me to my 20k weekly target which on quite a few occasions recently I have been missing. Have a good running weekend everybody πββοΈπββοΈππ
A muddy 8k canal towpath run: It started out... - Bridge to 10K
A muddy 8k canal towpath run
I do love a muddy towpath! Sounds great! You can jump the puddles like a kid!
Ah yes, I do like towpath running but as you say, when the path turns into muddy sections it gets quite hazardous. A few times I've nearly ended in with the narrowboats and shopping trolleys.
I will resume again in springtime π
A nice muddy run! Even with the mud, the towpath looks like a great place to run. Well done on getting to your 20k target as well π.
It was also very quiet, didn't meet anybody at all over the whole run
Looks like a great place to run! I got lucky on Monday, the weather turned just after I got home after my run. I got soaked tidying up the garden instead π€£
I love our canal towpath as itβs flat and as the dog comes with me for most of my runs itβs perfect. The other week it was just full of puddles so you either run through or spend extra time avoiding but your route sounds particularly tricky good stuff getting so much distance done!
Mud, glorious mud!! Well it sounds like you enjoyed it, nevertheless!! Well done!
The downside is the cleanup πππ
I know exactly what you mean about not knowing how the amount of rain we have had will effect various routes. I so prefer to run off road, but I really don't want to fall. Glad you returned safely. πππ»ββοΈ
That sounds very much like the tow path I run along. When we have had a lot of rain there is a section of about 100m where the canal overflows covering the tow path completely. Always a fun soggy part to get through, makes it more interesting as you have to remember where the path is to avoid the canal itself ! π
Well done on another fantastic run
