I graduated steadily through couch to 5k and then onwards towards 10k using a combination of other apps, always with a goal in mind - I entered the Asda run for all Nottingham 10k in January, and the date of Father's Day 16th June seemed way off. With a combination of holiday and injury my final weeks of training suffered a bit meaning that as I stood on the start line today (that date crept up) the most I had completed was 8.5km running in my own world (music etc). I thought it was doomed for failure when my Bluetooth earphones wouldn't turn on and I reluctantly packed them away and completed the warm up to the Asda soundtrack. Well I can tell you all it was an inspired mishap, I thoroughly enjoyed my 'silent' running chatting briefly to other runners, marshalls and supporters and listening to other stories as I plotted my way around my first ever 10k. To cut a growing story short, before I started I thought that if I could finish this event my time would be at best 1 hour and about 12 and a half minutes. With no music and 'just' the surroundings to inspire me, I completed the full 10k, my first remember at age 50, in 1 hour 9m minutes and one second. Therefore I would like to thank everyone that cajoled, supported and urged me and the other thousand plus runners home. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the run because of these people, well apart from the hills! I have updated my OP with a photo of my medal.
