NRC 80 mins with Joanie Benoit Samuelson, the Marathon gold medalist in 1984. She held the record for the fastest marathon time for woman for 32 years ๐ฎ. Sheโs 63 now and still running marathons. I really enjoyed this guided run, such words of wisdom and inspiration born of years of experience. There were quite long gaps too where I could listen to music which led to a good mix of music and chat which kept my scatty mind engaged. I listened to a favourite compilation from 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed it ๐ต๐
I was only supposed to run for 9k this week but when I got there I felt good and decided to carry on to complete the 10k ๐๐ฅณ๐ My hips felt niggly at 7k but nothing too bad and my breathing felt like I could have carried on for ever. Having a week off work and feeling rested and relaxed probably helped. All my splits were between 8โ13 and 8โ43 so Iโm pleased with that.
So after reaching 9k, then getting Covid, Iโve finally reached that elusive 10k. Needless to say, Iโm very very chuffed ๐

There's something that seems to happen when you run for more than an hour, which you describe as "breathing felt like I could have carried on for ever". I don't know what it is, probably a subtle shift in metabolism. The leg muscles do get tired but the rest of the body feels just fine.
Congratulations on completing your first 10K run, well done, remember to tell the administrators, then you will see the words Graduate10 next to your username ๐ ๐๐พ ๐
Well done you! I did the exact same thing a while back - thought Iโd aim for 9k but managed 10k+, while listening to the same NRC run. Iโm made up for you, what an achievement ๐๐๐ผ๐๐ฅณ๐.
Congratulations on your first 10k Frizzbomb67, ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐ฅณ๐ฅณ why donโt you sign up for the Virtual Vitality 10,000, the medal is a cracker and well worth having ๐ ๐๐โโ๏ธ
Thanks ๐ I was thinking about it. Iโve signed up for the 10k world record attempt in September but the Vitality is closer in May. I would like a 10k medal ๐
Do it ! I did it last year, the medal is a nice substantial one, itโs very impressive, itโs not until end May / beginning of June ๐ช๐ป๐ ๐โโ๏ธ
Thanks. I will now all the aches have subsided ๐ Actually I wasnโt too bad ๐Iโm wondering now how to keep up that level of endurance without doing 10k every week ๐ค as thereโs no way I can fit that in with work. Have a great day too ๐
