NRC 80 mins with Joanie Benoit Samuelson, the Marathon gold medalist in 1984. She held the record for the fastest marathon time for woman for 32 years ๐Ÿ˜ฎ. Sheโ€™s 63 now and still running marathons. I really enjoyed this guided run, such words of wisdom and inspiration born of years of experience. There were quite long gaps too where I could listen to music which led to a good mix of music and chat which kept my scatty mind engaged. I listened to a favourite compilation from 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed it ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ˜

I was only supposed to run for 9k this week but when I got there I felt good and decided to carry on to complete the 10k ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ… My hips felt niggly at 7k but nothing too bad and my breathing felt like I could have carried on for ever. Having a week off work and feeling rested and relaxed probably helped. All my splits were between 8โ€™13 and 8โ€™43 so Iโ€™m pleased with that.

So after reaching 9k, then getting Covid, Iโ€™ve finally reached that elusive 10k. Needless to say, Iโ€™m very very chuffed ๐Ÿ˜Š

There's something that seems to happen when you run for more than an hour, which you describe as "breathing felt like I could have carried on for ever". I don't know what it is, probably a subtle shift in metabolism. The leg muscles do get tired but the rest of the body feels just fine.

It always amazes me how good my breathing feels as I used to gasp for breath running for the bus ๐Ÿ˜‚. It feels good ๐Ÿ˜Š

I still need to stop and catch my breath if I do a sprint or go up a steep hill, but on a long slow plod my breathing is nice and even nowadays.

That NRC run is a nice one I've used. It myself

I know exactly what you mean about breathing being fine but do be careful of that niggly hip. Don't end up like me

Well done you! I did the exact same thing a while back - thought Iโ€™d aim for 9k but managed 10k+, while listening to the same NRC run. Iโ€™m made up for you, what an achievement ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ˜€.

Thanks. I will now all the aches have subsided ๐Ÿ˜‚ Actually I wasnโ€™t too bad ๐Ÿ˜Iโ€™m wondering now how to keep up that level of endurance without doing 10k every week ๐Ÿค” as thereโ€™s no way I can fit that in with work. Have a great day too ๐Ÿ˜Š
