Day off today, so went out for a run this morning. Chose my new shoes for their second outing, a 5K this time.
Their first outing was a 10K and I had lots of aches in my feet. 10K is NOT a short distance to run in new shoes. So the run after was with my old shoes again and today a 5K with the new ones.
The first 10 minutes I felt a slight ache at my heel, but it disappeared after 10 minutes and I had no aches in my feet for the rest of the run. I plan to run another 5K with them next week, than 2 times 5K the 2 weeks after, while keeping my long runs with the old shoes. I hope this way I will run them in in a good way.
Anyhow, the run. It felt really good, really enjoyed it. I got passed by 2 other female runners who were discussing yesterdays episode of a Flemish sitcom. Said g'morning to a few dog walkers and an elderly couple and though my 5K took 43 minutes, it still felt too short.
I really wanted to run more, it felt soooo good! But 1. I had to keep in mind the running in of the shoes and 2. I have to follow my plan to reach my first ten miles and 5K was on the plan today. Sunday will be my long run.
Now a bit of loom knitting, reading and tv watching...
New shoes, Evy! Good fun. I know the urge to run a little bit further when following a plan.
I only came across a line of five horse riders on my last run. I said good morning but they didn’t say it back, just looked down on me, which is quite an easy thing from a horse, I suppose. It was the kind of look you associate with Spaghetti Westerns.
I don't know if sitcom is the right word. Do you know Neighbours? It's a bit like that but less exciting. I watch it every day though 😂.
Too bad the horseriders didn't say anything back. I used to be a horserider for 5 years and just like with running, I tried to be friendly always, even when sitting on one of the highest horses in the manege.
I’m keen on our UK’s Channel Four “Walter Presents” which shows TV series from around the world, non-English language. Not many sit-coms unfortunately. I liked Professor T, but that was shown some time ago.
Yes, soap opera, that is what I meant. I watch Neighbours too, but on the Flemish tv I watch Thuis (Home). It is a Flemish soap opera but a tad boring to be honest.
Professor T? I loved that series too. There were 3 years of each 13 episodes if I am not mistaken.
Never saw the US remake of it, but I can imagine it's less good. That's also the reason why I read almost only English books. Because often it is best in the original language. I take for example the books of Terry Pratchett's Discworld, if you know them. Translated they would lose half of their amusement as a lot is in the language.
Reading that you too do a 5k at a slower pace has just calmed me down from a mini meltdown about a race I am doubting about my ability to be in it! Anyway congratulations on your new shoes! And yes please always say hello to horse riders, or even just say hello to the horses, I truly appreciate it as does my horse (no spookiness!)
I understand your feeling. I would like to participatr in a 10K or maybe a 10 miles race next year in July. But I don't know if I will be able to be before the cut off time!
I myself never pass horses (city), but I love them. Back when I went to the manege, I always came an hour too early just to brush and take care of the horse.
Well done Evy. I took some new shoes out for a spin this morning and while the soles are fantastic, I think the upper on the right foot will take a bit of getting used to. Sounds as though you had a great run what with other runners, horses and everything! 😊😊😊
That sounds like a sensible plan to run in your shoes. I'm hoping to get road shoes in a couple of weeks so it's great timing to remind me to take times getting used to them. Good luck with your plan x
