Joggers nipple!

Hi all. I’m on holiday at the moment and catching up with my running after a couple of weeks being laid low with the flu. Did a 10k in hot sun the other day (Even through I left very early the sun was still pretty high for the last 5k.) and got my first cast of “joggers nipple”. I was wearing my Brighton 10k top which I’m guessing is designed for running in but I think it was a combination of sweat and pouring water on myself to cool down that made the material abrasive.

Any tips (no pun intended) for alleviating this? I see you can get special “nipple guards” but it seems like another thing to fall off and be annoying and also I think I’d feel rather silly wearing them!

Thanks!

(P.S. I’m not putting a picture of my nipples on the internet so here are some cups of tea instead.)

Not something I have experienced but how about some Vaseline or plain lip balm? Good luck with your holiday running.

I remember Jay66UK wrote a post about this last year when he was on c25k. He might come up with comments or you can search his posts to find it. It certainly sounds painful.

Have you washed the shirt before wearing?

Ouch. Sorry, nothing useful to add apart than that! 😅 I hope you find a solution - it’s something us ladies don’t need to worry about (i assume anyway?)

Wear a great fitting sports bra like us ladies do 😂? Sorry jimmers no experience with this but I’m sure some guys will be along to share their wisdom. The nipple guards or just a good plaster is supposed to work. I use body balm on my inner thighs in the summer to prevent chafing; I suspect it could help with jogger’s nipple as well.

From Ultrarunningltd.

Do

Apply a waterproof adhesive bandage, or surgical tape over each nipple before exercise to act as a barrier between skin and cloth.

Don’t use a large, loose-fitting T-shirt during exercise.

Apply an anti-chafing balm or petroleum jelly prior to exercise on your nipples

if you’re a woman, you should wear a soft fibre and seamless bra

men should wear tops made from soft material

Wear a sports bra, shimmel, compression vest, or some variety of chest binding clothing.

Don’t

wear tops made of coarse material.

Hope it heals soon😖

I had that last summer. Awful, bloodied, painful. Put a plaster over each before a run and you'll be fine.

Not what you're looking for?
