Hey lovely running peeps! It’s dawned on me that I’m not a fan of running in bright sunshine! I can’t focus properly and feel too uncomfortably hot even at 8am in the morning with the sun beating down 🥵. I spent some of my run looking for shaded bits of the streets to run in. Anyone feel the same? I keep seeing posts from people who are really enjoying running in the sunshine but not me - give me low temp and clouds any day and even a bit of rain ☔️😮. Am I a bit weird??? P.S Still feeling frustrated at my poor time ☹️🐌
Am I a weirdo? 🤔: Hey lovely running peeps... - Bridge to 10K
Am I a weirdo? 🤔
You are not alone AllyS, I too dont like being out in sunshine, never mind running in it !! Early morning before the sun gets his hat on is my favourite time of day to run - we get hot and sticky enough without striding out like a good 'en in the heat of the day !! Running directly in to sunlight is uncomfortable ,off putting, and pulls the plug on any enjoyment factor !
Hi AllyS. I think I like a change in the weather. When the cold snap came my times improved, and the same thing happened when things heated up a bit. Give me cold rather than really hot any day given the choice.
Don't worry about time! You are doing really well with your distance running. I would guess that you think about your heart more than some others.....you are right to take care.😊
Cold snap all the way for me Beachy! Or even just some cloud but not humid cloud mind you 😬. Thank you for your kind words about my time. Had a further ECG a few weeks back and consultant said that whilst my resting heart rate has occasions where it drops even further due to my having taken up running; it recovers well and it’s ok for me to keep doing what I’m doing. This pleases me no end even though I will eventually need the pacemaker. But hey, that’s in the future and not now so ideally I’d still like to improve on my times 🤞🏻😊
For me, progress in terms of speed comes in cycles ....I just hit patches when I feel right. Using Jog Run Sprint (thanks Dexy5) to get into intervals made a big difference (but ultimately I over did and had a minor injury set back!). Running quicker in small sections of an otherwise normal run seems to work... over a period the extra speed seems to spread into the rest of the run if that makes sense? I used to have cardio issues. Retirement and running seem to have fixed them. 😊
Hi AllyS, not heard from you for a couple of months, I have contacted you before, I think it was back in the winter, glad that you enjoyed your run today, don't worry about the time.
I have been rerunning some if the C25K weeks, not the exact way as the first time, but the most interesting run, second time round was run 3 of week 5, last year my pace was 08.40km, last Saturday when I reran it, my pace was 07.09km, the next comparable time will be when I have practiced a few 30 minute runs, then I'll attempt a full 5K.
I will put Mapmyrun on, at the moment I have been running to the C25K app with Laura except R3W5 when it was Mapmyrun. Good luck for your runs by the sea at Irvine, I live in another former 'new town' Cumbernauld which is as far from the sea as you can get, in the centre of Central Scotland, however, we do have some beautiful countryside nearby.
Thanks Al - yes you have contacted me before. Hope you’re well? That’s a good idea about rerunning the C25k. Didn’t realise you were a ‘new townie’ too. Irvine’s not too bad. Don’t think I’ve been to Cumbernauld before but I’ve passed by and your right about the beautiful countryside 😊
Bring on the weirdness, I much prefer cooler weather and shade. Hot or humid weather always makes running harder for me too.
Saying that I am looking forward to the summer, just not for running.
Just keep if slow or go later at night if you can. 😎
I agree. Any sun and I’m too hot and looking for shade. A little bit of gentle rain and a nice breeze suits me. It puts me off signing up for a race in case it’s too hot 🥵
You're not alone! I can't run as well if its too warm or the sun is too bright. I lose all concentration. I often run in the evenings, around 6/7pm when its still light but cooler.
You are definitely not weird (or maybe I am weird too 🤣🤣). I love running in the cold. Running in the heat is exhausting 🥵🥵
I was also feeling frustrated about my lack of speed so 10 days ago I decided I could definitely run faster if I ran round the streets on pavement instead of my normal wood chip path in the park. I did go faster by about 2 minutes but I haven’t been able to run since as I hurt my back 🙄 I have now decided that plodding is the way to go and wish I’d stuck at my normal slow pace.
Well we can both be weird together 😂😂 Oh no Bridget that’s not good about your back! It’s a bit of a double edge sword trying to up the pace but increasing the risk of an injury. Hope it’s better very soon 🤞🏻😚
You’re not weird Ally! 🤗 It depends on how hot it is, but I do like a bit of sunshine. As for the time! Every run is so different, the time will probably come when you least expect it. Personally, I quite like my snail runs. Sometimes it’s the time that is most needed. ❤️
I don't mind a nice blue sky but I can't stand the heat. When I went for my long run a few days ago I set off in patchy cloud/sunshine. Then the cloud built up, and it began to rain. Lovely big cooling drops plopping down on me. My heart leapt for joy. You are not alone.
I prefer it too, a light drizzle is really refreshing 😀
I’m with you. I really enjoy my early morning runs. Not keen on the winter ones that start and finish on the dark but a big fan of the ones that have a sunrise.
I went out this morning at about 7 and think I might have to make it earlier. Don’t like being dazzled by the sun and once I’m able to feel the warmth of it? Yuk!
Will have to get back to the 5:30 starts.
Hi Ally, you're not weird! I love a nice blue sky but not the heat, too exhausting. I like to run in the early evenings in the summer which may be a problem for a 10k in July! 😎
I’m pleased I’m not the only one. It was a beautiful morning and I couldn’t wait to get out for a run. I set Nike run for 40 mins and started very slowly but 20 minutes in I had nothing left in the tank. I think it might be because I started c25k in September and ran all through the cold and rain. I love the summer don’t get me wrong, just not for running.
I prefer cooler too
The rule is to dress for the ambient temp plus 10 degrees. About 8-9 degrees has me in shorts and running t-shirt (chilly for the first 5 mins then perfect). An outside temp of 20 degrees feels like 30 when you work up a sweat! Sunny and 10 degrees for me please.
