Parkrun splits

I was supposed to go easy and had an inkling I was going sub 30. Early this morning Little Miss UNM was asking if we were running g together, which as she pretty much refuses to run 5k if there’s others watching is pretty much impossible, so she was doing her run walk thing somewhere behind me. 2.5 miles in and I decided to stop and run the last bit with her... walked up to the next marshals and waited for her. So 500m to go and we are running together, and she wants to beat me, 200m to go and she speeds up.. so do I and I say you’ll have to do better than that... 100m to go and she did... I slowed and clapped. The great thing was she had RunaroundSue BaddieThePirate and 2 more from our little meet up to cheer her over the line. Thanks guys.

Post run calorie replacement and a pleasant chat. So pleased I set my alarm this time 🤣

Wow those splits are amazing!! 😍🤩🤩! But you know the best of them all is the last one, because it shows how much you care! Well done to you and Little Miss too! A great team!!

Didn’t know you have the lovely BaddieThePirate and RunaroundSue at your Parkrun too 🤩. Brilliant!! ❤️

10k this week I think... should get long to 10miles in next 6 weeks after that then. Think I’m going to abort 5k plan and switch to 10k one as it’ll pick up at my current levels anyway... gonna see what the adaptation does to next week, I need a long run in it!!!

We have not met before - this was due to Pianism who has organised a full schedule of parkrun tourism for us but unfortunately he couldn't make it today.

I look forward to the next one and hopefully he can make it. Usually I can do 3 weeks and then not the next 3, so I can’t do every one. I know who I’m looking for next time too... had to find previous posts for a clue. I was fairly sure it was you guys just before the first timers briefing, but no 🏴‍☠️ to be seen.

I think Lyme May wonder why they have so many people volunteering to tailwalk 🤣 but they have 2... one is in the midfield, so I’m calling the actual tail!!

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply to UnfitNoMore

you may need an assistant tailwalker :)

Some of the locks are tricky to close... maybe it’s a two handed job! When I did it I got my high viz... then a radio... then some keys... all very different!

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSueGraduate10 in reply to UnfitNoMore

Wow, that all sounds a bit more technical than picking up a few arrows!

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply to RunaroundSue

It’s not too bad... the radio links to the park rangers too so handy to have given the terrain. Can’t remember exactly when I did it, but it was cold wet and windy... locking the gates would have been easier in the summer I think.

Great that you were able to get together! Brilliant idea! Well done to you all! ❤️

Well done, that was a great finish and a pb for her. Nice to meet everyone

She was happy with it. Hopefully she will get her confidence and run the whole thing soon, but I’m not gonna push her into it.

Quite right. Right from day one on C25K from me it was I only run for myself. I wouldn't have done well with any pressure (other than the fact I needed to post my updates on here :) )

What a wonderful post UNM. How lovely that you had a c25k meet up too. They are really special.

Those splits are something I’d die for but I know it will come in time.

When I got to my last 500m I said to a chap who usually runs his wife in ”you can run me in if you like Peter” - I was only joking , I didn’t expect him to do it! But he ran me in with my fastest parkrun sprint. It wasn’t a PB overall but I proved something to myself. Poor chap then had to run back and run his wife in. Don’t you Just love parkrun?

Now if you fancy a nice 10 miles, how about the Great South run in Portsmouth/Southsea in October ?

UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

That’s great... you know you got more there now. Gotta love that parkrun spirit.

Great south run is one I want to do at some point. I’ll see how much I like the distance I guess... I get 10 mile long runs all through July and August 😂

I was happy with my splits today, apart from the fact I was supposedly aiming for 7 minute kms!

Ah that sounds so lovely. Little Miss sounds like she’s flying and has her own supporters club too 😊. Splits I have never quite worked out but it’s looks impressive. Happy running UNM.

Thanks. She had a blast.

I don’t usually look at splits much, as I aborted the run I thought I’d look to see how I had been doing until that point... I’m please with the pace so maybe next time out I go for it a little.

Wimborne profile image
Wimborne in reply to UnfitNoMore

God I am hopeless with working out pace and splits. I quite like that though. Means I am never disappointed after a run 😂

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply to Wimborne

There is that! Of course it’s all irrelevant compared to enjoying the run.

That is so so amazing..... and it made me cry... Dads and daughters..lovely man... :)

Great to meet up with other forum, friends too...when are you in Betws Y Coed???

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply to Oldfloss

We are looking at getting over there before the end of the month on either of the school holiday weekends, otherwise i don’t know for sure, we sometimes manage to nick a couple of days.

We are looking at a week in July too... but I don’t know which week yet... hoping to get two parkruns in then.

Certainly was good to hook up with some from here... and I’m looking forward to meeting more. I need to get touring too!

What a great Dad...those precious times are her memories being made.

I just hope she remembers these days as I slow down and she speeds up and of course when choosing me a nursing home 😂

Franglaise profile image
FranglaiseGraduate10 in reply to UnfitNoMore

Of course she will....you will be an octagonarian runner and still be on splits like today anyway.

We’re looking forward to it. We usually do 3 on 3 off due to other commitments but have now managed 5 in a row.

Marple to Macc trail sounds good too.

That is so awesome! I'm sure LittelMiss UNM was tickled pink to have her own cheering crew and Dad to run in with her 💕 What a lovely activity to do with your daughter.

Pretty impressive there, UNM, and I love that Little Miss had her own cheerleading section :)

She loved that bit... and she ran in front of people more than usual too... hopefully it’ll help her overcome the anxiety.

grumpyoldgirl profile image
grumpyoldgirl in reply to UnfitNoMore

I hope so, I was so shy as a kid, I'm impressed with her doing it at all. I wouldn't have had the bottle back then.

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply to grumpyoldgirl

It’ll come... I’m not wanting to push her hard, but I’m thinking I should do my run like yesterday, but stop a little earlier each week. She loves doing her own thing early in the run and tires herself out if she tries to run with me from the start... but if I burn off some of my energy and then run with her it works.
