As I’m running every day I’ve decided to alternate short runs with slightly longer runs, yesterday’s 30 minute run was followed by 2k today with Willow.
So if i only run 2k and the second one is faster does that count as negative splits? 1st kilometre 8.54 2nd 8.26 😀
It’s misty and murky with a grey sky and no wind so we went to the park and the smell has gone! bonus
Felt good, I tried to ignore the harming and run at my speed, we joggled along together for the first kilometre then i pulled ahead a little son the second, said hello to a few dog walkers and a man running in the opposite direction, he made it look so easy I was tempted to turn and follow to see how fast he was going but the next time round he said that’s it i’m finished.
A big black dog jumped up at me oh I love big dogs 🐕 the woman apologised and i said don’t worry about it he’s lovely and carried on.
I love running, tomorrow is the last day of my holiday so i’m planning a potter round the roads and see how far i get then on thursday a short sharp 10 minutes after work, I hope i can keep up daily running for a while because i feel so much happier for it.
Enjoy your run or rest all

Even the peaked cap gets pulled off in the first 5 mins, that looks really useful but would drive me batty. It’s only my glasses getting covered in raindrops but i have 2 pairs so might take the other pair as i won’t mind so much if they get covered in scratches when i stuff them in my pocket
Then you need to start more slowly if you want to do negative splits, but I sense you’re not that bothered. Same as me right now. Just running is good enough 😊. Short run or longer run, whatever I feel like on the day!
When we were following a garmin plan we had one negative split run a week, each week we started slower than the week before, we were running first kilometer over 11 minutes, and then we just couldn’t speed up, I pumped my arms and pumped my legs and felt like i was putting so much effort in only to find at the end it was slower still 😔 so gave up trying I’ve found lately the second kilometer is faster than the first but if i carry on they get slower and slower. I’m nearly 66 and just happy i can run
Good run for you today, the big black dog was probably just being very friendly to you, yes those were negative splits, however, if you ran, say a 10K, if the second half is quicker than the first 5K, I think that could also be regarded as negative splits. A hundred percent negative splits would be every kilometer being a little quicker than the previous one.
thanks Al and the dog was lovely, it’s the little happy ones that freak me out, when i run 10k every kilometer pretty much is slower than the last 😊but when i do that i’m just chuffed i can run
Same with me, but when I ran my 5th 10 miles run a few weeks ago, my average pace was 7:31 km, but the last 3 km pace were negative splits of 8:17, 8:07 and 7:32, which surprised me, the first 10K of that run averaged 7:20 per km, but so what, as you say "as long as you can run, that's the main thing" 👍🏃🏾
I’m always in awe of the speed and distances you run Al, I’m hoping when I retire I will run more, for the moment though i want to see how many days i can run every day, even a ten minute run after work will make a difference
I like the idea of the short runs 2km negative splits but don’t know about every day. I could probably do twice a week walk the rest except Sunday longer run/walk. It would help get stronger possibly quicker over a long distance, Good for you your chilling out and enjoying it.
For sure that’s a negative split. 👍 You might want to try quick walking the first km and then move into slow jogging for km 2 and then move the pace up a tiny notch for the 3rd.
No problem. 😊 I love my walking and I use it to get my miles in whenever I can. I walk whenever I get the chance even if only to the local shops. I do hope you enjoy your last day off and your, see-how-long-you-can-go run, is fun. 👍
Thanks yes, I would walk more if i had more time, i do walk quite a lot though, when the pandemic started i found myself carless and walked to and from work, but then was struggling to run as was tired but what was great was i rarely saw a car or another person it was so peaceful
I think I may have stepped into another world negative splits???? I am a 70 year old newbie 🏃♀️🤣 not understanding the language 🥺I am now on Wk2 of bridge to 10k done my first run of 3.5k on the boring treadmill.
Today after taking the dog for a walk 🐕 2yards stop sniff, 1 yard stop sniff a 30
minute walk takes nearly an hour 🤣
Hubby and I will be going to take measurements of the bungalow we have hopefully bought (this is the third one) fingers crossed this one doesn't fall through then I may have time to do my 6k run.
Oh grandson is coming again at the weekend he says he wants to get my speed up and his stamina up.
Sorry i seem to have gone off subject and it's your post 🙄🙄🙄
Hi, thank you that made me smile, I didn’t understand negative splits until we followed a programme which told us every time “more work to do” we quit that after a few weeks, bit like haunt back at school. Dog walks! we think they are good cerise but yes that stop sniff doesn’t really get you that far!
Hope all goes well with the bungalow and enjoy your 6k 😀
Our grandson is coming today to eat caribbean wraps crazy potatoes and beat us at scrabble
The second kilometre was faster than the first, just in case you were serious 🧐
