After my first ever 10k event back in March when I bitterly cold North wind was blowing, when I also suffered running shoegate!, this 2nd one in May just had to be better!
Some years ago, a nearby village wanted to raise some money for the local playgroup & organised a fundraising running event. This year was their 30th event. It's not a large scale event, but this is a tiny village in South Lincolnshire with a population circa. 2000.
After, the 3k fun run, came the sell out, 400 entrant 10k. Perfect running weather, plenty of cloud cover with small breaks of sun, around 11Β°C & a light breeze. Running number collected, I found my sister-in-law & husband (long time runners & run leaders for their running club), I think they detected my nerves! This all felt very official, my first event was very much a charity run, this one was full of club runnings, it had chip timing & the announcer kept quoting previous years winners & times and suggesting that course records could fall! π΅
As usual tho, there was little need to worry, everyone was chatty & happy around the start line, discussing previous times and hopes for the day, and we're off! As we were running on small village roads, it was a little congested but soon spread out a little by 1k & by 2k I ran & chatted a while with a chap vastly more experienced than me, I was holding me pace well but he was beginning to speed up so we parted ways. By 3-4k I was feeling strong & well settled into my pace, which lasted until 7k πͺ. I did have focus a bit more from then on but still managed to stay within 10secs of my starting pace, there was no sprint finish tho!
The strange thing was, in my first 10k I managed to do my parkrun PB back to back. I've since then set a new PR PB of 27:36. With yesterday's chip time of 55:15, I've only gone and done it again!!
Hope everyone is enjoying their runs, event or BH weekends as much as I am! π
Apologies for the length of post...
