I’ve run 10k three times now and decided to bite the bullet! I have booked my first 10k race as a bit of a spur of the moment thing and it’s on Sunday! How much should I run between now and then? I’m used to doing only one long run a week plus one/two shorter ones but my last one was last Monday which seems ages ago! Should I try to do something like an 8k tomorrow or just stick to 5k? And should I have a rest day the day before or do parkrun and take it very easy? 🤔🤔🤔
Eek! I’m so nervous. I don’t want to make a fool of myself!

Probably go for a 5K so you'll be feeling fresh for the 10K on Sunday, you were very sensible on knowing what it is like running a 10K, although I suppose it will be completely different and new to you running with hundreds of other runners around you, pending on what time you wish, start at the back so you can pass other runners rather than them passing you. Good luck for your run on Sunday. Don't be too nervous, you won't make a fool of yourself. 😊 🏃 NOWAY DO A PARKRUN ON SATURDAY with the 10K the next day, as I say, run a 5K at the latest on Thursday, that gives your legs plenty of time to get ready for Sunday
Good luck! Looks like there are quite a few first time 10k racers this Sunday, including me! I did 5k today and I’ll do a slow 4k on Thursday. Then rest up until the big day!
Good luck for your race! I ran today and might squeeze another one in tomorrow then rest. Exciting but nerve-wracking! People at work have kindly offered to sponsor me (wasn’t planning to ask but obviously it’s great for the charity) so now I have added pressure!
Seems a popular day for first time 10k ers. I would say do a 5k no later than Friday, then have a rest day on Saturday. I wouldn’t do parkrun, so that your legs are fresh on the day. Good luck for Sunday!
I’m doing my first official 10k on Sunday too, booked last Saturday. I’m following simply health’s advice of 30 mins slow Tuesday, 20 mins Thursday and 10 mins on Saturday. I hope it works. Have fun
Ooh that sounds interesting.Didn’t get to leave work early enough to run yesterday so did 30mins today. Might do 20 tomorrow then and 10 on Saturday (seems hardly worth lacing up the trainers for that 😂). Good luck for your race.
Thanks, I think the 10 must be just to keep the joints moving. It does seem strange to do so little after being on the magic plan but hopefully we’ll have more energy as a result
