10k graduate completed ju-ju's magic plan...first proper chipped 10k on Sunday YIKES!!!!

I've been following ju-ju's plan indepently as I missed the official start date. Who do i need to ask to get my grad10 badge?

I've now technically run 2 10ks and have my first official 10k race on Sunday in Aberdeen. Rather excited along with a bit of intrepidation due to the fact there is a timing chip on my number and there are thousands of 'real' runners participating! Hopefully I won't be last to cross the finish line... Any top tips for your first 10k?

Thanks!

How exciting Angela! No tips for the race I’m afraid, as I’m also doing my first 10k race on Sunday too - but in Bristol. 😀 I’ve run 10k five times, but I’m definitely not quick. I don’t fancy coming last either! 😅😅

Don’t forget to post a race report, and good luck! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Hey Angela, congratulations. I did my first 10K with a chip last Sunday with 7,000 other people. It was amazing. Drink loads up until a couple of hours before hand. Get to a toilet within 20 minutes from the start time. Warm up and enjoy it. Running in a crowd is fantastic and it pulls you along.

My sister and I did it together and we were in a start bin expecting a finish time of 55 to 60 minutes. We were passing people out all the way to the finish. So start as you mean to go on, don’t take off too fast and maintain a nice steady pace which is right for you.

Soak up the atmosphere and enjoy every second of it. The wave of elation at the finish line and finish funnel is hard to explain.

Thanks for your top tips. I'm looking forward to it. It's a huge event so will be exciting to part of it. One of my adult pupils who is an experienced runner told me not to do too much this week to make sure my legs are knackered before Sunday. When did you do your last run before the event? I did 5k Tuesday and am thinking maybe just a short run on Thursday or Friday (20mins) might be the best plan??

Should have said 'legs aren't knackered' :-D

Yes that’s good advice. My last run was on the previous Tuesday which was 7K. I had a little knee niggle so I relaxed from the run on Tuesday evening until Sunday. My legs were tired and a little sore for the past couple of days. Looking forward to a nice relaxed 5K tomorrow evening.

Good luck Angela! You’ll love it. I did my 1st timed 10k last month after doing the distance 4 times on my own. I would say start in the right pen for the time you think you will do or even a bit further back, so that you have the pleasure of overtaking people and you won’t get stampeded by the speedy ones at the start, drink in the atmosphere and just enjoy 😊

That's good advice Sandie! I've never thought about overtaking anyone during it!!! :-D

Well done on your 10k, it’s a great feeling isn’t it?

I’m also doing my first chip-timed 10k race at Bristol on Sunday , and hoping to see Cheekychipmunks in her home city.

I’m following advice from the race website; 30 mins easy run yesterday, 20 mins tomorrow and 10 mins on Saturday.

It is a good feeling. 30+20+10mins sounds very sensible...and I've already done the 30 on Tuesday so would fit in perfectly without killing me before Sunday so I think I'll go with that too! Good luck to you too on Sunday!
