Well I amazed myself today. I planned to run 5k today and put all my running clothes etc out ready last night, put my watch and headphones on to charge downstairs but brought my phone upstairs as I was using it as an alarm. I plugged it into my other charger and went to bed nice and early. I slept well, woke at 6.30 and dressed, then grabbed my phone and realised that although I had plugged it in I hadn’t switched it on. So I put it into Airplane mode to speed up charging and decided to run ‘naked’ and off I went.
It was quite nice listening to the birds at that time of the morning, very few cars about or other people and I chose my old 5k route and plodded away. The first 10 mins , usually Toxic but strangely enough not this morning went by and I was trying to make a conscious effort not to take off too quickly and struggle later. I ran past the park and down towards Pottington Estate and then remembered I’d completely forgotten my inhalers this morning. I think the phone debacle threw me out of my routine. So immediately the gremlins were whispering ” you’d better cut this run short” “ we could cut through here and just do 3k?”. I ignored them and ran on.
I ran along towards Chaddiford Lane and round the corner towards the school. This is a bit I always dread as it is one of those long slow inclines that seems to go on and on never-endingly. But I just kept my eyes on the pavement about 10 steps ahead and plodded on and got to the end gratefully running down the slope back towards Pilton Abbey, then turned right and back down Abbey Road. Now I came to the other side of the cut-through that the Gremlins has tried to tempt me down earlier. And I turned and cut through.
Looking back it was probably a bit daft, as I suffer badly with pollen, cutting through fields and trees and hedgerow weeds but I kept on and came back into Pottington Road as I hit 4K. I did fleetingly toy with going for 5 1/2 or 6k but as I carried on up the road back towards home I realised that was not going to happen. Finally managed to cut back around the park and head towards home ending not quite back where I had started. Probably would have made it 5.5 if I had carried on back to my start point but as it was I am quite happy with only 2 mins slower than my usual 5k time and with no inhalers too.
Back home, to find that although I had put my phone on Airplane mode I had STILL forgotten to switch it on at wall and I just managed to get out of the shower as my window man arrived to do the last window, my kitchen one. Thats the lot done now -all newly double glazed - the last lot lasted 25 years so if this lot does too I’ll be happy.
8 k run next 🥴
