Spent a happy hour in my favourite shop in Carlisle (Chivers Sports) trying on shoes and running up and down.
I wanted something to replace my Brooks Launch 5. They have powered all my running since I started about this time a year ago. The Brooks have done a good 600 Km, and Strava has started to nag me about getting new ones. I tried the Brooks Launch 6 (red laces), and they are just as comfy. However...
Green is my colour, but my feet liked the Orange Saucony Peregrine ISO better (4mm offset). £20 less, have I got cheap feet? I may get the On Cloudflow too, not decided yet.
I know how much the girls like to show off their shoe porn, and I don't think us boys should let that go unchallenged!

Oooh I love the colour of the On Cloudflows! I really want a green running shoe but they are hard to find. On Cloudflyer are my runners of choice, but if they did that green, I would be overjoyed!
I bought new Flyers a few months ago…and now you have made me want to buy more, theoldfellow!
Great selection of shoes you now have TOF, yes, if the girls like to show off their shoe porn, why should us boys not do so as well. Happy runniversery to you, we both joined C25K about a year ago, today to be exact is the day I began the C25K program, I ran run 1 of week 1 on the 18th April 2018.
To celebrate yesterday I bought a running belt, enquired about running shoes, they are expensive but probably worth it, if I do buy new running shoes I will also get a gait analysis which involves running on a treadmill, taking your shoes AND socks off, sounds interesting, but not just yet, have a good day.
Alan, the gait analysis is painless, once you get over exposing your NAKED feet to the gait expert. Well worth it in humble opinion.
My actual runiversary is next week on the 23rd April - it says in my Strava record 1st Week, 1st Time, Run 1. But as a Greek Orthodox clergyman, next week is Holy Week, and I'll be working - might get some short runs in🙏🙏.
theoldfellow what a coincidence! My Runniversary is also on Tuesday. I’m working that day so going to do an anniversary run on Monday and repeat W1R1 but at JogRunSprint pace. Will probably still end up sweaty and beetroot like but will have hopefully gone a bit further. My vote is for the green ones - subtle but eye catching 😃
Congratulations Alan!! Happy Runniversary to you!! Enjoy your belt and encourage yourself to go for the shoes!! My (gait-analysed !) Brooks pair have changed my whole running experience! (For the better, obvs!!) x x
Thank you for congratulating me on my "runiversary", yes I now know where to go for a gait-analysis, I read in detail what it involves, that shop does it free of charge so I would NOT get it done and just walk out the shop after 45 minutes without buying the shoes they recommended. 😊
Introducing my lovely stepdaughter to parkrun at her local one near Chesterfield tomorrow - quite a flat course and only just over 200 runners last week (unlike the 974 we had in Southampton!) so looking forward to that. Happy Easter to you too!
👍 🏃 Good luck to your stepdaughter for her first parkrun tomorrow morning. 😊 🏃 I think all the parkruns will be busier than usual because of the perfect weather and it being Easter🥚
Running Shoe Excitement is a gender-neutral activity, imho, and so is Running Shoe Envy! What a lovely array! 👏🏼🎉💕 Glad I’m not the one having to make choices there. 😂 Happy runs to come in your second year, I bet. 🏃🏻♂️💨
I think you need the cloudflows too... my Mrs always said there was no such thing as too many shoes... though she’s starting to change her mind now I’ve joined in.
I had a word with She-who-must-be-obeyed, and we agreed that next week when we are in Carlisle, I might reasonably go and make that purchase. Just as long as the running keeps me cheerful and healthy enough to do my chores. 😄😅😄😅😄😅
Oh hello! 😍😍😍 You certainly had a greater selection of colours to choose from than when I got my gait analysis! I went for slinky ninja black. 😎 But I Love all your choices! 👍😀
I have clocked up over 800 km’s on my Brooks GTS17’s. I’m going to have to go shopping soon. Garmin Connect seems to think that runners last 1,000 km’s. They all look nice. Happy running.
They are lovely! Are the Saucony’s trail shoes? They look to have a really chunky tread. Colours were really boring when I went shopping in February: I too have black, but with neon pink laces 😊
They are 50/50 Trail/Road. But yes, they have really chunky grippy soles. Which is what I wanted. My 5Km runs are usually road, but my longer runs incorporate some farmland and fell running.
Great! I am starting to run more trails and at the moment it’s very dry so road shoes are fine but I may have to invest at some point! I’m very impressed that you’re running on fells!
I hope they serve you very well. I only managed to get 400 km out of my brooks GTS18s . I was obviously not kissing the ground with my feet like Oldfloss says we should do.
Happy Easter to you, I know from my days living in Cyprus that this is the most important celebration in your calendar.
Yes, and the most tiring for the clergy. Our Easter (Holy Pascha) is a week later than here in the west, but as a member of Churches Together, I get to do it twice.
Looking forward to the Easter Parkrun on Saturday though.🙏❤
I have 2 pairs of Asics, one I save for outdoor and one which I started 18 months ago which I use in the gym and will look for some new ones soon, sadly I have to shop online
I am a little concerned that the corporate electronics police are ones telling you to change them though!
I have to be honest, when I started running I was dreading having to wear coloured shoes. Now I want them BRIGHTER!
But I should also say the Orange Saucony are the ones that have the best fit with my needs for a trail/road shoe with a low offset (heel/forefoot) because I have a midfoot strike.
