The great shoe debate

I've played some kind of sport all my life and always been keen on major brands like Nike, Adidas and various hockey specific labels.

Running however has never been me, and I've uncovered a wealth of running brands I've never heard of...

ON Clouds

Asics

Brooks

Salomon

And of course Nike / Adidas are big in this world too

So... Where should I stick my hard earned pennies?

What do I look for as a 5-10k every other day 'runner'?!

All opinions welcome...πŸ˜€

The ones that feel most comfortable on your feet regardless of brand. Anything anyone says here(except me of course 😜) is valueless. Get down to a nice big running shop and try some on and get some advice there. Mayhap get your gait analysed while your there.

Good advice.... Not had a gait analysis. Does that affect shoes?! I'm still a newbie!! πŸ˜…

You’ve cast a pebble in a very turbulent pool there. Debates about gait analysis are like those about Mac Versus PC πŸ˜‚

Don't get me started on the Mac vs PC thing πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

in reply to orangeguy

I’m not saying a word about being a Mac user - oops!

One if the elite you mean, not a follower of the Beast of Redmond πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Yes, very good advice, try as many different brands as you can, everybody is different ...

I tried a few after getting my gait done and Brooks Ghost 11 are perfect for me. 😬

The ones that match your garb. Nothing worse than wearing ill fitting colours. Sheesh!!!

in reply to mrrun

Quite right too!

Definitely need them to look good with the bumblebee shorts!

Make and money make no difference to your shoes. What counts is whether they fit your feet perfectly or they don’t. Why are you asking now after all this time?

Just ran in what I had and it worked out ok!

If they've got you this far then stick with them.

Ah in that case look at Scott’s 😁

Gait analysis, advice from a dedicated running shop NOT somewhere like Sports Direct. Up &Running were brilliant when I bought my first running shoes. Read reviews on Yell or similar when choosing somewhere local to you.

Be aware that Sweatshop is now owned by SD, so unless you know what you want, I’d give em a miss. I say that from experience Nothing wrong with SD but I don’t have confidence in their staff training 🀨.

in reply to misswobble

it depends what you want.

Or ask At local running club if there is an independent running shop they use. Good and bad reviews get passed on.

As others say, brand not important.

I went to a specialist store in Manchester, had gait analysis, got offered 4 pairs to try. 2 Brooks, 2 others. Loved both the Brooks. Preferred one over the other but didn’t know prices. The one I liked was the dearer pair but discounted as new model about to launch, so ended up cheaper. I’ve now bought a second pair same in different colour in a further sale.

If you ask locally or look on google for running shops in your area The shop website or Facebook Page is usually a good indicator Customer feedback and interaction with the owners is a good sign I have several not too local stores that are well respected within the running fraternity with whom I trust my feet. If I know what I want I will shop online, or wait for an event where there’ll be bargains. Got two pairs that way πŸ‘
