So i rarely run outside because where I live there is nowhere nice to go.. I invested in a treadmill in the new year which I have been using for all my runs. I recently did my first 10k on it.. I'm working away this week and knew that there would be some great places to go for a run. I'm within walking distance of a quayside so thought I'd go for a lovely run along the river. That thought was where I should've stopped! It had been spitting before I went out but I thought it would be fine. I started off quite happy and then the rain came! A torrential downpour, wind, nowhere to shelter, so I just kept going! I stopped after 2.5k and turned around as it was getting silly. I spent most of the run back hopping over puddles, trying not to slip and generally thinking what on earth was I doing! I knew I shouldn't have cheated on my dreadmill! Anyway, I made it back to my digs in one piece, threw everything in the washing machine and got in the shower..my fastest 5k is 37.32 on a treadmill so I'm really pleased with this time of 38.24. I am looking forward to my next run outdoors, just hoping for dry weather!
Soggy 5k...: So i rarely run outside because... - Bridge to 10K
Soggy 5k...
Give it six months and you’ll be running in any weather Well maybe not dangerous weather like lightning or ice. Trick is to make sure you finish near home (or hotel or whatever) so you have quick access to a hot shower and dry clothes. Being wet and cold after a run isn’t the best fun so plan to keep that bit as short as possible but DURING a run - it bothered me when I first started running but yesterday I was running straight through puddles like everyone else and I bet you’ll get to that point too! You know about stuffing wet trainers with newspaper to dry them out?
Good time for that weather! Thought the picture looked very 'arty'!😀
That’s a great run 👏👏
I love running outside whatever the weather. I’m sure that you will too 😁
I stuck my trainers on a radiator when I got in.. ive not got any newspapers here but will remember that tip when I'm at home, thanks! My biggest thing for running outside is not knowing where to go! I started with a hesitant walk as I wasn't that sure where I was heading.. then I saw somebody run past me so I headed in that direction! Once I got on a path it was fairly obvious. I live in a city with one dodgy park nearby, this has made me want to find a local route, especially when the weather is good. I'll not be wanting to run on my dreadmill then I know!
Yes I like to know where I'm running. On holiday I've tended to go for a walk on the day I arrive and use it to suss out a running route then just stick to that route as long as I'm in that place - it's not likely to be more than three runs in any one place so I won't get bored.
That sounds like a good plan - doing a recce first! As I'm working down here I knew today was the only chance I'm going to have to get out, I think that's why I ignored the grey skies! I run on a dreadmill normally, so boredom is not a factor for me lol! Being outside was so refreshing, and even if I did the same route each time it would always be different in some way...
