The Nonsense of Numbers !

Sunday was my long run day and first 10K for a while , yesterday was a rest day and today I felt I needed a short recovery run to loosen up again .

It was an NRC recovery run and just 15 minutes.

I decided to do this run on the treadmill.

So Dynamics done, 5 min treadmill warm up walk then start the app and Garmin on treadmill setting and off we go !

As this was a recovery run I was not paying too much attention to numbers , I just brought the treadmill up to a conversational pace and settled in .

Nothing much to report about the run itself other than it was comfortable and served a purpose of loosening me up again .

So, 15 minutes done , app and Garmin stopped and treadmill wound down to a 5 minutes cool down pace .

Job done !

So, why the title !

Well, here goes !

Those who read my run report from Sunday ( healthunlocked.com/bridgeto... )

Will know I had an issue with the distance reported by NRC.

Well, I have found the answer!

I had left the app on 'Indoor' mode following my last treadmill run !

Ok, so, today make sure it's still on treadmill , Garmin also set on treadmill and of course treadmill playing the part of treadmill 😁

The interesting thing is , after completing today's run , nothing agreed !

Numbers were total nonsense!

NRC gave me a pace of 6:39/Km

Garmin 9:23

Treadmill around 6:13

I would argue that none of these are correct!

But, as this was a recovery run then there was only ONE pace I was interested in and that was a CONVERSATIONAL pace!

Happy running !

That's quite a discrepancy between Garmin and the other two, very interesting. But as you say, the main thing is that you were running at your conversational pace, that's what matters 👍

Yes, ridiculous discrepancy!Very frustrating 🤬

Have you calibrated the Garmin to the treadmill? That usually brings those two into rough alignment (but as I drink with my watch hand it’s never 100%). My phone is also useless on the treadmill, I think it assumes your usual step length, and I for one run very differently on the treadmill. Numbers are all irrelevant if the satisfaction is at 10 of course.

thanks, and yes, calibrated .

Conversational pace = good 😊. Do you have a chinwag with yourself? I’ve been known to do that just to check out if it is a conversational pace 😃. Must look a bit mad really!

Absolutely!Or if inside I'll talk to Misty 😁

How are you now ?

Still positive 😖, I think it’s just a waiting game really. Slept 11 hours last night which is unheard of! Managed a really short walk just now where I know it’s really quiet, so it was nice to get some fresh air. Thank you for asking, Ian 😊.

Similarly I fell asleep in front of the TV last night, something I haven't done in a long while. Then I crawled up to bed at 8am, slept more, sent an email to work to let them know I was still sick, then fell asleep until nearly 1pm!

It's been interesting to see things ebb and flow on the stress graph on the watch. The weekend was solid yellow and amber with no blue, yesterday had blue flecks amongst the yellow and this morning was almost normal blue when I wasn't moving.

Yes, sleep is definitely up there at the moment nowster ! I don’t have a stress graph but I’ve noticed my resting HR has gone up a bit. Thinking about it, it went up about 5 days before I tested positive. Stay well 😊.

Thanks for reminding about the conversational pace, that's what matters.I find numbers on different apps are quite different as well. Someone recently dragged me to Strava as well..dont like so many different apps & numbers saying different things.

Yes, the discrepancies are frustrating but congratulations on a successful recovery run. I hadn't realised the NRC app has an indoor setting 😀 which explains why it hardly registers any distance on my treadmill runs!

Yes, im not impressed with it though , and you have to have the phone in your hand when running and even then I found it pauses a lot 😐I have just ordered an "NPE Runn treadmill sensor" so hoping to have more accurate readings soon 😁
