I did it. I ran a sub 35 minute parkrun! πππ Garmin says 34.36 over 5.04k, so chuffed to pieces doesnβt cut it. Iβm absolutely over the moon. ππͺ Iβve slashed 2 whole minutes off my previous PB and I was literally driving home with a ridiculous grin plastered all over my face - and I really did punch the air at the traffic lights. π Bonkers lone middle aged woman alert! π
Not ideal prep either, having gone out for a pub supper (Cajun chicken burger and fries - luscious) and 4 G&Ts ..... hey, maybe thatβs my secret!
Another thing which helped was running with the same lady and dog who I ran with when I did my previous PB. Her dog likes mine and she calms him down. Mutually beneficial as his owner speeds me up! πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Anyway, Iβm still overly excited and whoever I speak to today is going to get very bored! Hopefully you, my VRBs, understand! β€οΈ
I hope youβve all had/will have fantastic runs this weekend too. πββοΈππββοΈ

Thanks Dexy! It looks more complicated than it is really. I love it - plenty of challenges with 2 shorter hills and 1 long one, but thereβs some downhill and flat too. π
Glad you had a good parkrun too. Nice you get to see VRBs at yours. Looking forward to 2 weeks today! Iβm wondering whether to bring my dog - Iβll check to see if theyβre allowed and decide nearer the time. Isnβt it exciting? πππββοΈπββοΈπ
Dogs are allowed there cheeky but I donβt know how much room there is on the paths. Just bear in mind that there could be a thousand runners . We have half that amount in Southsea! πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Good point Dexy. We have about 500 runners in Bristol and we thin out fairly quickly after the start, so itβs not an issue. Hmmm, donβt know then. Iβll look on YouTube as they often have time lapse videos of the whole course for certain parkruns.
I looked at the website and on the front page it describes doing the lower part of the course first, then the upper common. But if you click on the course map it shows you do the upper part of the common first and then the lower. Hey ho!
Whichever way itβs done, there will be runners in both directions at various stages.
You could always go on their Facebook page and ask opinions of those in the know. πββοΈπ
Iβm still in a state of excited shock CP. It felt amazing and all my splits were in the 6βs except the long hill where it was 7 something. Unheard of for me! π
That is great, must be the race spirit (and all your training) paying off! I did my last one at just under 37β but then it was entirely flat. Iβm interested to see what it will be like when I do the hilly ones... π₯΄
Ironically I didnβt get a PB the other week when I ventured to a totally flat parkrun. It was 12 seconds slower than my previous hilly PB and I was very surprised by that. Maybe the downhills cancel out the uphills, although Iβm sure I read somewhere they donβt. π€π€
Wow Cheeky you were seriously on π₯ this morning werenβt you? Gorgeous sunshine, Spring in the air and in your feet ππππββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπ₯π₯π₯
Thanks Sandi! Iβd have been happy with sub 36 if Iβm honest, or even a second off my last PB which was 36.48 - so to smash it was unbelievable! Youβll do it, you know you will! πͺπͺ
Congratulations cheeky on running your first sub 35 minute 5K in a time of 34.36 at this mornings Parkrun. π π.
I know that wonderful feeling, last year after I graduated I wanted to run a full 5K in less than 35 minutes, I did achieve that in the same time as you 34.34. Next goal is to "try" and get a sub 30 minute 5k but first of all I'll rerun some of the C25K program starting at week 3 on the anniversary on the day last year that I began C25K. π π
I knew I could rely on my fabulous VRBs, thanks Biddy! My husband is a gazelle and whereas heβs pleased for me, he doesnβt feel the need to analyse it like I do! π
πππ You do make me laugh Cheeky!! It seems I'm not the only bonkers middle aged crazy lady out there!!π€£ Very well done you π€ππββοΈπ¦π«
Wow! That is brilliant! Go you! I bore everyone when Iβve got a PB and Iβm nowhere near as fast as you! I bet you will be sleeping with a smile on your face tonight ππππππππ
I did Bridget! Iβve thought of nothing else. No one else really understands except you guys! I showed my splits to my husband and he said well done, but he didnβt expand on that. I could have talked for hours about them! π π π
Thatβs why you have to get your family into running cheeky! We all just compete with each other now and stare all afternoon at our results when we get PBs (trouble is we donβt get much else done when this happens π).
Too true! I spend far too long on here as it is, and yesterday (and today so far!) have taken the biscuit!! π π
My husband runs as part of his rowing training and my younger daughter does too (sheβs a gazelle doing 29.54 at her 2nd parkrun), but they donβt get as excited as me! ππ
I was hoping my daughter could come, but sheβs been invited to an engagement party in London and sheβs pretty sure itβs that same weekend. So more than likely just me, and possibly my dog! πββοΈπ
Fantastic. You have every reason to be proud of yourself. Keep on with the dogs owner, she seems to bring positive outcome your way. Next weekend a new target!! I do the same talking about my 1 min speed improvement to everyone I meet and I see them rolling their eyes. That donβt seem to bother me as long as I tell them of my supposedly super achievement. 2 minutes is an amazing gain. Very well done. I think I will try 4 gins a night before my runs. Let us know how next week goes.
The funny thing is, I used to be the eye roller whenever my husband tried to show me a video of his rowing stroke analysis or a race! Heβs an avid rower and still uber keen even though heβs been doing it for nearly 40 years! π π
Iβm more enthusiastic when he shows me now, but only because I want him to return the favour when I bore him with my running! π πββοΈπ
Well I am sure he will not pick it up where your enthusiasm comes from. Either way itβs a win win now. I have to say I envy rowers as my partner is one too but he will not show off his skills to me. I only get to imagine how much he would have worked by his blistered handsπ€£ but he gets mine even in preparation stagesππΎββοΈππΎββοΈ
Oh fantastic cheeky! A brilliant well done! Two minutes is an amazing amount! πππ I was only just saying to Pianism that it was a very good day for PBs because the weather was so perfect. Youβll have to run with that lady more often! πππππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈππ»ββοΈ
I know TC, she was fantastic! She was slightly ahead on the last hill and was encouraging me all the way! She asked if I minded and I said no it was just what I needed! π π π
Wow cheeky a whapping 2 mins of you Pb is fantastic, I love the previous night out prep. Iβm not surprised your punching the air excellent run well done you πππ ππΎ
Thanks Runsome, I honestly couldnβt believe it! There was me, ordering my 4th beverage, thinking βoh well, thereβs always another weekend to run wellβ, and boom! π₯
Great stuff. I know we do our runs constantly and would hope with practice and hard work to improve our times but it seems to me that great achievements come along when we least expect them. I was only saying this to Pianoteacher yesterday. And boom π₯ here you are with another example. I wonder if its us subconsciously putting pressure on ourselves but when we just enjoy it it sometimes we get wonderful results. Oh well I donβt really know but Iβll take them however they come. keep that cheesy champions grin going and you punch the air you deserve it, if know one else knows why all your VRBβs get it. Fantastic PB great stuff ππππ
Yay go You !!!! Fabulous PB ππππππΌββοΈππΌββοΈ. Love a good air punch and also Rocky jumps work well for me. Keep Smiling that smile. You deserve to shine all weekend ππππ
Thanks Wimborne! I think anything goes celebration-wise for us runners. All our inhibitions go right out the window! π π Iβm still reliving it over 24 hours later! πππ
Oh well done too SM, thatβs fantastic! πππ
Funnily enough even though I clearly worked harder according to all my Garmin stats, it didnβt feel a whole lot different to when I snail round the course. My theory is, the slower you take the hills, the longer they last (or something like that!) π Iβm going to see how I get on at our local flat parkrun again next weekend ...... πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
