I can't do this.

Today's plan was a steady 11k, after two weeks at 10k I thought it was achievable. I had today off and it was a beautiful sunny day, perfect conditions.

There was more faffing at home than I planned and i had a bit of nut bar as I was getting hungry before setting off. I never usually eat before a morning run, but the runs are getting longer so I took some jelly babies too just in case.

After a warm up walk I started running and disaster! Pain in my right thigh, knee niggles, back pain and heavy legs. I thought I can't do this! But I knew I had to persevere and kept a steady pace down the long hill and along to the river.

After about 4k I started to find it more comfortable and turned along to find a new river route and discovered some lovely countryside. The last three K unexpectedly were easier due to taking a wrong turn and ended up having no choice but to make up the distance just to get home. I was really pleased that the last stretch of the hill felt a bit easier possibly due to eating the head of a jelly baby πŸ˜›

So I exceeded my goal, slightly suprised at myself! Lots of stretching and I'm trying to ease the pain with my foam roller, the poor girls sports massage 😁

Happy running all. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Well done. 11 and a quarter km at that and a very good time. Do you think the speed might have had something to do with the pain? You could slow down a little and still be doing really well.

Thanks Flick, I've been gradually slowing down and I've found running with a group has helped with this. I'll keep working on it.

Well done for doing the 11k Crawlhome. As Flick says, you may find it more comfortable if you slow down a bit. My distance pace is about 1 min per k slower than my parkrun pace.

Thanks Dexy5, would you believe that's my slower pace! My parkrun time is also a bit faster 😁

Well done you - you’re inspiring me to get over the 5k hurdle and go further. This sounds very ignorant but what gadgetry gives you this readout of distance, time etc? Is it an app?

It's a Garmin, a brand of sports watch that tracks exercise, heat rate etc then you connect it to an app. Be warned, it's addictive!

Thanks! I have a Fitbit but the read outs are so bloody small that being old I have to stop and put on my glasses. Will have to sit on Santa’s knee and ask for a Garmin

Well done Crawlhome! Cracking distance and time πŸ‘ Sounds like you did well getting through those niggles at the beginning. I got myself one of the strapped knee supports from decathlon for my last run and found it very supportive for my weaker right knee.

Sacrificial jelly babies too, that’s almost selling the longer runs to me πŸ˜‹ I’ll be watching your progress with interest πŸ‘Œ .....Haha! poor girls sports massage... πŸ˜‚

Really impressive, your time seems really fast and I can't believe you only burn 613 cals, when I run around 10km I am up around 1000 cals but then I am a bit of an Ox. You inspire me to longer distances.
