A Tough 12k And A Different Kind of Trail Runner !

Haven’t run this week due to a combination of things, recovering from last Saturdays first HM, returning to full time hours at work, and feeling a bit low since Tuesday evening, which had sapped my energy.

Thankfully this morning I woke up feeling more positive and with more energy, perfect running weather out there so no excuses. I chose the NRC Another 10k Run, and off I set, legs felt heavy today, however I chose the route with the steep hill at the beginning as that one has hardly any weekend walkers. Reached the top of the dreaded hill, and realised this isn’t going to be the easiest of runs, so paced myself, slow and steady and with a nice welcome breeze behind me helping to carry me along I reached 5k, the exact point at which there was one of those sharp bend mirrors, 🤔 photo opportunity for my post 📷 👍 Not the most flattering photo !

Having caught my breath continued on until I’d reached 6k, then turned around and headed back, the nice welcome breeze was now blowing against me, so it wasn’t welcome or nice anymore, it was a bloody nuisance ! 😬 BUT I battled on and it eventually eased off. At 7k I saw another runner heading towards me who suddenly stopped and climbed over a gate into a large field.....must be trail running I thought, so slowed down to see where he was heading....but I soon picked up my pace again when I realised he was making a trail of a different kind !! He’d had been caught short and had ducked into the field for a pee !😳😂

On I went, thankfully the breeze had settled down and I seemed to find my second wind, eventually I heard CB say 200 metres to go, so I finished in style with a nice little sprint 🏃‍♂️😁. I walked for a while to catch my breath, then as I was still quite a distance from home I tagged a further 2k run onto the end. Not the easiest of runs today, but as always I’m glad I made the effort.

Happy Running Everyone! 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

P.S. I’m still waiting for the postman to deliver my HM Medal 🏅😬

A 12k is a great run to follow on from your HM 👍I would have expected a 3k recovery run or something 😂

I must try the NRC Another 10k run (that's when I get back to 10k 😂)

Cheers Ian, should have done a shorter one really as you say, I’ll make the next one a 5k I think. It was ok though and I think I chose the right time as it’s chucking it down here now.

Haha, it's good when you time it right with the weather 😁

Well done on beating the gremlins and getting out there. 👍 Do you think it was partly a coming down to earth after your Runner’s HM high?

Work and the horrendous weather couldn’t have helped either...plus going to work is so inconvenient 🙄

Loved the trail runner though! 😂

...remember to take it easy on yourself 🥰🏃🏽‍♂️🐌🐢

Cheers LMW, just one of those weeks to be honest, I’ve been fine for a while, but work, then the old grief hit me hard on Wednesday, and it saps your energy, feeling lot brighter now though. The HM was a tough ask too.

Glad the trail runner gave you a chuckle 😂

Grief *is* hard...it can catch you unawares. Tomorrow will be difficult 💕💕💕

Now that made me giggle, stopped for a pee 😂 Steady and you were out there running, back to full time hours at work is really tiring too

Cheers Sola, glad that gave you a giggle 😂

Full time hours wear you out when you haven’t done them for a while, getting used to them again now though 👍

They wear you out even when you are used to them, I keep trying to run after work but unless Willow is ready and waiting in his running gear it just doesn’t happen but it will Keep running it’s the kindest thing you can do for yourself

Your right, it’s tough running after work, I must get back into the early morning runs again as they set you up for the day. I’m off Wednesday so I’ll probably do a 5k then 👍🏃‍♂️

Cheers Jools, the second half of it felt better than the first for some reason. Pace didn’t turn out as bad as I thought 👍

It has been a tough week, but clouds have lifted now and feeling a lot better thanks.

Well done my running chum! Sounds like a good run. I’m sure your bling will arrive soon they are clearly giving it a good polish so it will sparkle on that medal display of yours! 😀 x

Aaahhh glad it gave you a chuckle 😂 it’s true I slowed down to see where he was headed off too....then when I saw what he was up to, I thought I’d better speed up here or this won’t look too good if he turns around and sees me slowing down looking at him 👀 😳

I’m sure my sparkling bling will arrive soon, it will take pride of place in the middle of my display.....,I’m such a big kid ! 😁

Tough run you you did it. Brilliant run, clears the mind. Hopefully it lifted your mood from a difficult week. Thinking of you today.

CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Dups

Thank You Dups, it did help a lot, it was a rough week last week, I was doing fine then Tuesday evening I began feeling really low and emotional and next few days weren’t good at all. But I feel ok now. It’s lifted, again. Thank you for your kind words ☺️

Well done Geoff, so sorry to hear you have had such a difficult week, thinking of you today and sending you a big hug 🤗

Continue to be kind to yourself during this difficult time, you are doing amazing and going back to work full time is so exhausting.

I hope your HM 🏅 gets delivered soon!!

Take Care

Thank You Rebecca, and for the hug 🤗. I’m gradually getting used to work again now but those extra few hours made much more of a difference than I’d realised.

I recognise that feeling now, it’s not pleasant but I know it passes, grief is a tough one and catches you unawares sometimes.

I’m sure the HM bling will make an appearance this week 🏅👀👍xxx

You are doing amazing, you have been through so much. Make sure you rest on your days off.

It must be so difficult so glad the running is helping you.

Well done Couchphoenix, especially for getting the dreaded hill out the way first! I’ll be back at work full time next month and already wondering how I’ll fit the running in. I shall just follow your lead! Well, maybe not the HM, but you get the picture 😀.

Couchphoenix profile image
CouchphoenixGraduate10 in reply to Frenc

Cheers Frenc, that hill is a tough one but once you’ve reached the top it’s lovely to coast down the other side of it 😀.

Good luck with your return to work, I was saying to Sola, I must get back into the early morning runs again as they do set you up for the rest of the day, and that air quality is so much better. 👍🏃‍♂️
