That worrying first post IC test run . . .

After nearly four weeks on the IC with a hip flexor strain I went for a 3k test run yesterday morning. On the run I could hardly feel it but afterwards all day it definitely felt uncomfortable. Last night I did yet more stretching and even tried using a foam roller. This morning all seems OK, no pain or discomfort, I have no idea what’s going on here :( I am hoping that’s a good sign but I don't know.

I have done so much stretching over the last four weeks I must be at least a couple of inches taller by now! :) That combined with Yoga and walking every day in an effort to maintain fitness has certainly kept me busy but I am itching to get running again. Do I try another run tomorrow or spend yet another week stretching?, I don’t know but this is certainly going on for a lot longer than I would like :(

Sorry to hear you’ve been on the IC. I was on it for 10 days with runners knee in Oct- following physios advice.

When I was given the go ahead to start running I did very short slow runs (2k) and stopped as soon as it got uncomfortable. I took extra days rest in between.

I would say listen to your body - If you feel any pain stop. Maybe try a short jog Sunday? Even walk/run until you’re at full strength? Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Thank you, yes I might try again at the weekend. I have just read a bad hip flexor strain can take up to8 weeks to recover from, mine isn't that bad but it is persistent :(

hey orangeguy - sorry you are on the IC

from what you have said, i would say maybe give the stretching a break...you could be over stretching?

I hope you make it off the IC soon so you can get back out there x

Sounds like you are on the mend to me, OG, but as Ripcurl says, ease yourself back in super gently, and build up. Keep the stretches nice and gentle, and don't push too hard I say. Sorry to hear about this though, what a pffffft! x

Sorry to hear you’ve been ion the IC. How did your fitness level feel after a 4 week break? Hope it’s sorted soon x

It was OK actually a bit hard going up a hill but not too bad. I've done all sorts things over the last few weeks, lifted weights, Yoga and exercises, in fact anything that didn't put a strain on my hip but as we all know nothing really replaces running.
