...my niggly back has stopped me in my tracks! Following a lovely run on Sunday, my back worsened on Monday resulting in barely a wink of sleep Monday night. I spent a very uncomfortable day at work yesterday and then I think the drive home just aggravated things, leaving me in constant pain, unable to sit and with tingling and loss of sensation in parts of my left leg๐. Very lucky to be able to see a lovely local physio today (she came in early to fit me in!๐) who has diagnosed an irritated disc (better than a bulging disc๐) and alongside exercise advise, treatment and some rather fetching blue tape on my back, has said no running for 2-3weeks!,๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ So off to the injury couch for me again, my local 10k not really looking very hopeful now. Never mind, I can still go along to cheer on my husband and sister, plenty more running and races out there for me I am sure.๐ Happy running for those who can! x
Just when I thought I was back on track... - Bridge to 10K
Just when I thought I was back on track...
Sandra.. no! This is horrid for you...and after your super blowy run too! I really feel for you...ouch.
Just take it steady, do the exercises and plan lots of lovely new routes... you can be the Chief Cheerleader for your husband and sister...and be super ready to tackle all the runs and races that will be out there waiting for you
Sending a gentle , ever so gentle squdge to you x
Thanks Oldfloss, it was all the coughing from my dreaded lurgy that aggravated my back in the first place!๐ซ I have every faith that I will soon be back out there - and my physio is amazing (she is a runner herself and has worked with many marathon runner types when based in Boston for a while, so I really am not a big challenge for her!) x
Sorry to hear that Sandra! ๐you're not having much luck lateley, but at least you know that staying positive is the best medicine and your husband and sister will I'm sure he happy to have you cheering them on. You'll be back out there soon I hope xxx
Oh no Sandra. So sorry to hear this. Hopefully it is only 2-3 weeks, and who knows, the enforced rest might do you good. I hope so. Fingers crossed for you.
Oh dear! Look after yourself and you'll be back; very frustrating though... Take care.
Oh dear, that's rotten. Hope it's not too long for you.
Oh Sandra , I am so sorry to hear this
I really hope you feel better soon , take care and your physio sounds top drawer ! xxx
oh no! The running gods are really testing you Sandra but you'll win in the end. Once a runner always a runner. Take care of yourself and keep posting here x
Sorry to hear that, but it sounds like you have a great physio who is giving you good advice. Hopefully you'll be able to be out there again soon.
Oooo so sorry to hear this Sandra, but glad your physio is working her magic. Think of this as a planned rest, and start plotting your come back x
How long would you have til the 10k after the 2 weeks of IC Sandraj? It could still be possible, perhaps as walk-run.
When I had a bad cough a few years back that was causing bruises round my ribs, a nurse kindly taught me how to brace myself for a cough. Literally by gripping my torso/ribs so all the cough is expelled rather than some of the force diverting into spine, ribs, stomach etc. So I don't doubt the cough caused your spine to suffer. Coughs are yuck ๐จ๐จ๐จ
I am not coughing anymore Ruth but I think that it was did the damage in the first place - because I remember the pain! The race is three weeks on Sunday. Disc problems can be pretty troublesome - I overdid it when I had one in my twenties and ended up with months of pain from a prolapsed disc. This is a little higher up and luckily, we don't think as bad (not a bulging disc) but is trapping a nerve all the same. My first goal is to be able to get back to work! I cannot drive at the moment and this morning am finding it hard to walk but mornings do seem to be the worse time. As for the run - it's not that important to me -there will be others! My physio's advice was based on giving the disc the healing time that it needs. Hopefully then I can gradually pick things up again - still got some great runs coming up later in the year including the Great South Run in October which I loved doing last year! I think taking it easy at the moment will ensure I make it to these events safely! ๐
Good thinking to look to the long term, nice to have the Great South Run to look forward to. 3 weeks sounds a little soon to get back to 10k, so I can see why you're managing your expectations healing certainly takes time. Hope you're not in too much pain
Sorry to hear that Sandra! Chin up!๐
Oh dear! Sorry to hear this Sandra โน๏ธ I do hope your physio works wonders and you are back on track very soon. Take care
My sympathy to you as I can understand as I too have been in the same place as you and it's not at all nice. ๐๐ข
Hope you get better soon and it won't be long before you're back out there!
๐๐
I wish I knew the words that would make it all better - however, hopefully you do know that if I did I would say them in an instant for you.
You say the sweetest things, sir! Thanks John, slowly improving...and desperate to be back out there! I will be shouting loud and proud when I do!๐๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ
Looking out for the announcement Sandraj desperate on your behalf too, hopefully you'll be back out soon
Thanks Ruth - my physio says maybe at the end of the month๐ฎ - doing gentle work on my core (under her guidance). Just have to go easy with things at the monent- more physio tomorrow.โบ
That's not too far away, a week and a half maybe? Just keep doing all that physio
