Been running for a year, just ran my first 9 miles (ha, forgot this was international forum, approx. 15k) without stopping 2 weeks ago but due to the past month being about as stressful as stressful can get, I am finding it tough to get back out there again. Anyone who wants to give me a good kick in the pants or just some support, it would be much appreciated. I'm very grateful to have found this forum though. Look forward to meeting more runners.
Hi all: Been running for a year, just ran my... - Bridge to 10K
Hi all
With an invite like that the queue will be long ๐. Welcome. Just go out there and run, perhaps a favourite route will get you going again. Go out with no ideas on distance or speed and definitely no pressure on yourself. Just have a bimble and see what youโve been missing. This time of year there are changes every day in the trees etc.
Did you know thereโs also a B210k forum too? Try popping in there for conversation too. Thereโs also a c25k one and lots of us hop between all three.
Go on, get your shoes on and get out there, you know you want to!
Thanks. That whole no pressure about time or distance will be tough but I've learned that, unlike lifting, I need a good couple days to work myself back up to the distances I've achieved as opposed to resting my muscles. I'll keep the 25k group in mind too. Nothing like a little I'll show you attitude to get me going again!
In case you misunderstood , I did when I first joined the 25k is actually the start of the programme Couch to five kilometres aka C25K.
Doh! Iโve done it again, forgot which form I was on๐. This is the Bridge to 10k, I thought we were on the marathon and race support one - sorry if I confused you (thatโs my usual state๐).
I just inadvertently read one of your other posts (it came up with this one for some reason) and i first want to say that you are incredible, to be achieving so much running wise and being motivated when youโve been through so much.
About the running, I think the first step is putting your gear out ready. Get out of the door, even if you donโt go far. I had a lot of pressure last week ( a deadlock in a personal situation that has since resolved) and had a 10k race looming that I had looked forward to but now didnโt want to do. Emotional pressure can literally paralyse you. But I did get out for a short run mid week then made myself do the race. In both instances, the running lifted my mood. If only we could transport ourselves fully geared up to the middle of a run! Itโs the getting out the door bit thats hard.
So I think I would echo Annieโs advice. No expectations, just go,out and run. Kick up some leaves, get the wind in your hair and have a potter.
Helps a lot, thanks. It's funny, the first 2 miles are always the hardest. Metaphor for life perhaps.
Definitely ๐
Plus nothing wrong with doing less than two miles if you arenโt feeling it - though once youโre out there itโs half the battle
Go out there and do it! Even if you've only got half an hour, it will make you feel so much better, and relieve some of that stress.
Just run, and see where you end up. It'll be fun!
Hi BigChris. Get out there and run. Bye.
Seriously, great that you found this fabulous forum. Youโll love it and weโre always here to kick you up the behind, have a chat, answer questions, take advice - anything!
We love pictures too. So welcome, and happy running.
Now off you go ...... ๐๐๐๐๐๐
Love the opening line. Definitely my sense of humor. Will do!
Haha! Glad to hear it! Have a blast and share your experiences with us too! ๐๐
Will do!
I can only seem to get myself going first thing in the morning but if not tomorrow, I will at least get myself out and about walking Saturday. Very encouraging all the support I've gotten so far.
I have a small gift for you ๐ฆ... it's a flying Frank. It does help when people give one ๐ I find it does anyway. Enjoy your run in the morning!
Very, very clever. Well done!
Did it work? Are you running this morning?
Persisting down here, but I've got to do 10km today because I got people to sponsor me. Well that's one way of making sure I get out there! (Won't make that mistake again, it's the only run I've undertaken without a let out clause) ๐ง๐จ๐ฆ๐ง
๐?
Good morning. I will get out today and at least walk in the sun. Had some wine yesterday so not sure how recovered I will be yet but tomorrow I'll at least get a few miles in to "break the ice" so to speak. Having a few good people to encourage me helps a ton. Cheers and hope the 10k goes well for you too. Let me know how it goes.
It went swimmingly. Luckily I'm not being literal. The sun came out! ๐ค 10km in an hour and a quarter. I'm v happy ๐
That's fantastic. I getting myself out a little later for a good long walk and then on to the running tomorrow. I may have to cut back a bit which does suck but it's because I just got a new job where I will be walking 7 hours each day which is still good exercise. I'll prolly end up with a mix of weights and maybe 3 miles 4x a week. The job has to come first.
Anyway, was that the first run you have done since you had your troubles??
Yay! Happy new job! Hope you like it and the folks are nice.
I started C25K at the end of May when my medication was working well enough for me to able to move. Now I've completed Bridge to 10km, so will be free to play with intervals, running group etc before deciding on my next goal. Meds working really well so long as I don't forget to take them.
Hey Big Chris I find that if I set everything out before I go to bed and go to bed with the mentality that your going out tomorrow you will find it easier to get up. I tell myself if I don't all my hard work will disappear. As people have said else where you don't even have to go out for long. Try 10 mins each run for 1st couple then keep adding to it. Many of time I've lay in bed thinking ill go later but I get up and they're usually the best ones. You can do this my friend. ๐๐๐
Thanks brother. Gonna get a good long walk in today for sure and I'll be Forrest Gumping it by tomorrow morning. BTW, I'm new to the running community, is that joke totally played out??
Hey Chris...welcome onboard! You've come to the right spot and it's great to have you too. You will not only have tremendous support, I'm sure you'll have a thing or two to share with us less experienced runners too. ๐คฉ
