Hi folks, hope you are all well.
Do my 17week training plan came to an end last week. I started it in Feb, it was a Garmin Coach plan. I’d recommend it if you’ve got a Garmin watch. My plan was based on completing a 10k on June 12th.
As there are no races happening in the UK at the moment, I decided to complete my training on a real 10k route. I’m lucky enough to live half an hours drive from the New Forest. So I choose the NF 10k route near Brokenhurst. It’s mainly off road on tracks and a small bit on a road.
I went to bed early and then woke up at 03:30 and could not get back to sleep. So I got up, had a bowl of oats and set out for the Forest. I did some warm ups and walked briskly for 1k. Then I was off. The routed isn’t marked, but I had done a recky the week before, so knew it in my head. I’d printed out a map just in case. I also placed a bottle of water on the route about 7k in, just in case I needed.
It’s quite empty in the Forest at the moment, as the campsites are still closed, so at 6am it’s very quiet. Just the pony’s and deer out am about.
I did a pretty good job or keeping my pace slow at the beginning be speeding up around the 5k mark. I really pushed it at the end. I was very pleased with a time of 1hr and 5seconds. Such a lovely place to do a 10k and while I was always by myself I did let out a cheer as I crossed the imaginary finish line 🏆
