Dodging Hurricane Florence in North Carolina

I had my longest non-running streak since starting C25K, 9 long days, after a fabulous walking (and running) holiday in the Lake District. Now in North Carolina where I first ran 5k in oppressive heat and humidity near Raleigh. Now near Asheville - and Florence arrived last night. Power just went down so no chance to run on the treadmill! These pics were from my intervals run in the calm before the storm!

Stay safe from Florence, its the awful flooding that has happened rather than the wind, Scotland, Wales and some parts of England are due to get heavy rain and winds from another storm on Monday evening, they named it Helene.

Yes, flooding seems to be the big issue here. We've got an inverter attached to a diesel truck battery, so enough power to keep the fridge and freezers cold, and the phone/router running! Stay safe during Helen! !

So far so good! Power just came on after 7 hours. Impressive response time by the power and tree logging company! About 2.5 inches of rain have fallen here so far since last night - no flooding within 10 miles that we know of - not sure about further afield!

Stay safe. Wishing you the best as you ride out this storm.

Thank you! Just a couple if good gusts of wind here so far - which brought down the trees that brought down the power line. Otherwise just vertical rain!

My hosts near Raleigh have kept their electricity so far, so cautious optimism that the worst of the storm is over. Time will tell!

It's scary as there's no place to go. I've lived in Texas in the past and been caught in tropical storms, hurricanes and tornadoes so I hope you are okay in a safe place.

It's been a bit of an adventure so far! Gas stations emptied, drinking water shelves emptied, but the response has been impressive with gas stations refuelled by next day. Lots and lots of generators have been sold by Home Depot. Hopefully not needed for years to come! Power just back on here so I'm heading for the treadmill in the basement - too soggy to go outdoors!

We think the worst is over ... originally the forecast was for 3 days of heavy rain here but today it looks like a bit of rain this afternoon only. There is flooding further down the watershed from here, but not so bad as it could have been. Keeping my fingers crossed! :)
