Last Sunday I went out with the intention of running further than my usual 5K. I ended up clocking 5 Miles a PB.
Now I haven’t been following the bridge to 10k exactly but I figured I’ve been doing this long enough now to go for a jump in distance because I thought my legs are strong & it’s Sunday and I have the time to do it!.
So smashed it . Felt great!........ until later on In the day when it started to feel like my son had just booted me in the right shin 😣.
Yes your right the dreaded shin splints. My first running injury since I started this malarkey .
So give it to me straight doc. How long am I sidelined for ??.

Ah shin splints....bloomin' painful aren't they? Don't be tempted to run again until they've gone, and sorry, I've no idea how long that might be. I think I was quite lucky, mine went in 3 weeks, but they were caused by not having proper running shoes, and that was sorted as soon as I got some good ones. Are your shoes OK? Up for the task?
Yea Ive got a pair of Brooks neuro 2's I've had them since I was on week 3 of C25K and they've been fantastic so far. I think I maybe pushed myself to much
It might not be shin splints at all Just rest up a day or two and see how it feels
There’s no substitute for slow running for leg building Slow running and rest days build running legs 🙂
There is plenty you can do to strengthen your calves, ankles, feet, upper legs and you only need a step or stair. Footlifts, calf lifts with heel drop, lunges. Foot exercises are useful Balance exercises too. Yoga is a great thing 💪👍😃as that does it all 💪
