Parkrun volunteering

Hi everyone, I’ve just finished my first outing as a marshal at Parkrun this morning. I really enjoyed it πŸ™‚πŸ‘

For those considering Parkrun, I’d say get out there and do it! πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

For those already doing Parkrun, I’d suggest volunteering if you don’t do it already. It really is worthwhile and gives you a different perspective on it all. πŸ˜„

Happy running everyone, enjoy your running, whatever you’re doing and wherever you’re running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

That’s good to know, our local parkrun are always crying out for volunteers, might give it a go...I like shouting & clapping πŸ‘πŸ» πŸ™ƒ

If you can shout and clap then you’re ideal marshal material! πŸ˜‚ πŸ‘πŸ‘ Yes, give it a go and see how you get on. I’m intending to volunteer every 5-6 weeks so it’s not too onerous and it’s nice to give something back for the support they’ve given me πŸ™‚

Good luck and enjoy it πŸ‘

Yes I took some clackers when I manned the turning cone and the runners appreciated the noise as a target. A tambourine would be better though.

I completely agree David. I marshalled at out Parkrun this morning and thoroughly enjoyed clapping and cheering everyone to the finish. It’s great to run at Parkrun but they only happen because of the time given by volunteers. It is so worthwhile πŸ˜€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Well done David_G, and good luck with your race tomorrow. Stanley has just signed us up for token sorting next week so we can run and volunteer on the same day.

Thanks Dexy, I think that’s a great idea! Once I’ve got a bit more used to Parkrun I reckon I’ll do the same. Let us know how it goes! πŸ˜€πŸ‘

Thanks to your post I was inspired to volunteer at Park Run last week, and it was great fun! I wasn't running on Saturday as I had a race on Sunday so thought I would volunteer instead. I was a marshal, shouted myself hoarse congratulating everyone! Really nice to give a little back. Thank you for your post! 😊

Thanks Mutley, I’m glad you enjoyed it! πŸ™‚πŸ‘πŸ‘ I’m doing a 5 mile cross country timed run on 30 Sept (my first proper β€œevent”) so I’m volunteering as a marshal on Saturday 29 Sept as I don’t think I should run 2 days in a row at this stage. 😳

Good luck with your running and volunteering- they go very well together! πŸ‘

As does pacer if you have those 😁

I remember we had pacers once - don't think I would be a very good one as I'm too short-sighted to see my watch! πŸ€“

I was tail runner last week! I really enjoyed it! So different to running - relaxing and able to see it from a completely different perspective πŸ‘ŒπŸ½

My son and I are tailwalkers at the end of the month - it's a great role isn't it? Hope to do my first stint as a pacer next month x

Must be the day of the couch25k volunteer! My son and I were halfway marshals today. We had two jobs - to put out a cone and start a stopwatch. Managed the cone but phone problems meant I couldn't hear the start so couldn't start the stopwatch so no halfway split times for our runners unfortunately ☹️

We gave lots of encouragement to make up for it - including to random members of the public who weren't even in parkrun πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Well done David for volunteering. I definitely plan to do that soon. Makes you appreciate all the people that give up their time to help every week 😊
