Decisions, Decisions. Parkrun or not?

Two Saturdays only left for a parkrun before we fly out. Next Saturday with our flight on the Sunday could be a little risky and tiring after a family gathering Friday night, so tomorrow will be the last chance for a PB. Iโ€™m not usually bothered about my times but decided last Wednesday to run 5km and nominate it as my July Strava 5k challenge race. Well ......! ๐Ÿ˜ค my Garmin recorded my run as 36.23 and Strava as 38.57 Whaaa! Could have been something to do with having to stop twice at railway crossings for the trains but I had paused my watch, guess Strava didnโ€™t stop recording. Much pouting and moaning later, told myself to get a grip and who cares, but shhhhh! am going to try and run 37 mins tomorrow.

A shorter visit to the dentist today, its all over now thank goodness, numb mouth all afternoon and feeling very thirsty, but my brain and mouth not co-operating but I eventually managed to sip through a straw and drink out of my water bottle - almost at the same time - not an attractive look. Forecast is fine and my Elmo leggings will make their debut at parkrun tomorrow. Just finishing my glass of special vodka and tonic dental medicine, ๐Ÿ™‚ and will have one more big glass of water and its bed time.

Bluebirdrunner, pretty sure you said you were going to parkrun on Saturday, I hope youโ€™ve rested well. Have a lovely parkrun ๐Ÿฅฐ xx Almorr you said you were running again too. Look forward to reading about it. Happy running and phew! try and keep cool everyone. UK hot weather donโ€™t go away yet wait for meeeeeeeeeeeee!

Postscript: posted results tonight I missed my PB by 19 seconds and running a 37 minutes time by 44 seconds, do I care? Not a bit. A run is a run is a run.

Thanks Deals, the mouth is improving, I did do parkrun this morning, but donโ€™t think it was a PB, but I enjoyed the run anyway and me and Elmo had a laugh. They must be having issues with the results as its now nearly 1.30pm and nothing has come through.

PS Have PMโ€™d you re the poppies ๐Ÿฅฐ

Thanks Debston, no official results yet through but think the PB will have to wait a little longer. ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks Sandi, pretty sure it wasnโ€™t a PB, but probably wasnโ€™t too far off, still waiting for the official results. The run was still enjoyable though, really looking forward to being a park run tourist and getting First Timer next to my name soon and Boston ๐Ÿ˜€

Hi lexi6, how are things in New Zealand? I am glad that the dentist thing is over, yes the weather in the UK and Europe has been exceptionally hot, France, Germany and the Netherlands have all had record breaking temperatures of over 100F, even where I am in Central Scotland our local weather station recorded a temperature of 90F on Thursday afternoon.

I am hoping to run my second parkrun on Saturday morning, however, the weather forecast is for thundery rain, I live 26 miles away from my favourite park run but if I get drenched running I would then have to sit on a bus for 45 minutes in a soaking wet T shirt and shorts which would be very uncomfortable to say the least, I am still hoping to run but with that rain forecast it looks a bit doubtful.

I hope you get a PB at your parkrun this morning. ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿƒ

Things are great AlMorr, weโ€™re having quite a mild winter over here which is lovely, although the poor garden doesnโ€™t know what to make of it all. My freesias and hyacinths are already out. Yes I definitely think sitting on a bus in wet clothes for that length of time wouldnโ€™t be a good idea and parkrun will still be there next week. Lets hope the rain cools things down for everyone, those temperatures are just too hot. I did my parkrun this morning, but feel pretty certain I didnโ€™t get a PB, no official results yet. I might have to buy some new shoes in the UK, sure thatโ€™lll do the trick! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ™‚

Just woke up at 5.30am, looked at the weather rain rador chart, it is not raining where I will be running my second parkrun, so hope it stays that way.

You had a good run this morning even if it's not a PB, that is the main thing.

You say that you are coming to the UK soon, which part and what parkrun's do you hope to run in?

lexi6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toAlMorr

Good morning Alan, brilliant youโ€™re running.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป First parkrun Iโ€™m running is Sale Water parkrun in Cheshire where I was born. Then Iโ€™m off to Enniskillen next, my late Dad and his family were from Counties Fermanagh and Tyrone, then on to Boston and finally Wilmslow parkruns. We are travelling to York, Lincolnshire and Worcestershire but mainly basing ourselves in Lancashire and Cheshire. Hope to go back to the The Lake District too.

I plan on winning the Lottery ( I wish) and coming back next year too ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a wonderful parkrun ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Good luck AlMorr! You may have left for Parkrun already...but just in case you see this, have a great run this morning!๐Ÿ˜Šxx

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10โ€ข in reply toBluebirdrunner

Hi Bluebirdrunner, I did leave for my parkrun this morning, it was only light rain when I left, soon went off, it was like that all the way to the place the parkrun was, on, off, on, off but ON when I got their, in fact, it got quite heavy, sadly I decided to come back home on the first bus as I would have got soaked just getting to the start, all I was wearing was a T-shirt, shorts and my running shoes, I would have been drenched everywhere except my feet, those new running shoes are waterproof, try again next Saturday.

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10โ€ข in reply toAlMorr

Sounds like a good decision AlMorr, maybe cool during the run, but feeling soggy to start it, and then having to ride home on the bus wet through not so much fun...

It will still be there next week, or when you can make it.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Šxx

I did mine in very light drizzle. I wasn't any faster than my first one, it was still muggy and I was feeling sluggish!๐ŸŒ Never mind...๐Ÿ˜Šxx

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10โ€ข in reply toBluebirdrunner

I would have ran it in very light drizzle, I did some of my C25K runs in light drizzle, however, as you say there is alway another Saturday only 7 days from now, have a nice week BBR, I will try and run a 5K locally sometime before next Saturday, Friday excepted.

lexi6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toAlMorr

Wise decision Almorr, there is only one of you and next Saturday is another day. Take care ๐Ÿ‘

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10โ€ข in reply tolexi6

I wasn't the only person not to run because of the heavy rain Lexi6, two weeks ago when I ran my first Parkrun there were 207 runners, I have just looked up the result page of the run I would have been at this morning, there were 138 runners today, the average number at that parkrun is 150, so that's more than 50 other people who do not like to run in the rain, in my case it is the long 50 minute journey sitting in a bus with a soaking wet T-shirt and shorts which puts me off running in the rain, if the parkrun was just across the road or within walking distance I would run in the rain and change immediately I got home, but being 26 miles away I could get a terrible cold with the t-shirt and shorts drying on me, you always remember what your mother said if you get soaked, "change your clothes if you get soaked as soon as possible". not almost an hour after getting them soaked.

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toAlMorr

Iโ€™ll bet most of those other runners hopped into their cars, grabbed their towels, dried themselves off and went home and never even thought about people like you on a bus soaking wet. Iโ€™m with you AlMorr, wet shorts and tee shirt uugh! Thereโ€™s always next dry hopefully) Saturday ๐Ÿ‘

You are up late Lixi6, it's 1.15pm on Saturday afternoon in the UK where I am but 15 minutes past midnight in New Zealand, or do you like to see the results of the park runs in the UK before bedtime?, by the way, what time do parkruns start in New Zealand, is it 9 as it is in England and Wales or 9.30 as in N. Ireland and where I am in Scotland?

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toAlMorr

It is late here and Iโ€™ve just got into bed (electric blanket โ€˜an all) just sitting up right now Almorr, having a last read before zzzzz. Sunday morning is usually my favourite time to read of all the membersโ€™ parkrun triumphs. Parkrun 8.00 am here, (too early) 9.00 is about right in UK and boy its going to feel really weird running at 9.30am in Enniskillen. Might have to have a cooked breakfast first before running it, save on lunch๐Ÿ˜…

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10โ€ข in reply tolexi6

We had second breakfast when we got home today Lexi! Just tea and toast though๐Ÿ˜†xxx

Mr BBr is my driver, he's not quite ready to run the Parkrun yet.๐Ÿ˜Šxxx

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toBluebirdrunner

Yes I think a cooked breakfast is a bit over the top, especially on a parkrun day its a banana usually, but in winter Iโ€™ve learned to love porridge actually I mean like, love is too strong a word for the stuff. It will be great when Mr BBr joins you on parkrun, I think having company would be lovely. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธโค๏ธ Xx

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Me and Elmo ran OF and while it probably wasnโ€™t a PB (no results still but it didnโ€™t feel like one ) it was lovely, with the added bonus of a face less red than my first parkrun and I can now walk back, instead of stagger back to the car. I think I need another dose of my special medicine tonight because Iโ€™m sure I feel an ache coming on Cheers! Oops! I mean ouch! ๐Ÿ˜ท๐Ÿ˜„

Parkrun (obviously) but thereโ€™s nothing wrong with setting/breaking a parkrun power walk PB if the night before was taxing. Iโ€™m trying to get sub 45 on that score.

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toUnfitNoMore

I went, I ran and I loved it. The PB will have to wait for another time, cos I got some parkrun tourism coming up now. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sub 45 walking, I would love to be able to walk that fast. When I first started parkrun I tried to keep the nordic pole user up in front in sight, but he was so fast I just couldnโ€™t but now I pass him and donโ€™t see him again, except on my way back to the start. Feels good.

Am guessing you are in New Zealand, in which case parkrun will have happened by now. Hope you did it! Which one is your home event? On a monthโ€™s holiday in NZ last year we managed to get to do Lower Hutt, Blenheim and Dunedin. We also ran the Hagley route but werenโ€™t able to stay there for a Saturday

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toCoddfish

I did Coddfish. I remember you being out here too, thought you were very brave for tackling Dunedin. Phew! My parkrun is Porirua, very sheltered and because it has lots of blind corners the lead runner is led in by a volunteer on a bike clearing the way. I havenโ€™t tried Lower Hutt yet, I know its flat but being exposed to the wind would put me off ๐Ÿ™‚

Bluebirdrunner profile image

Thanks Lexi...Yes that is my plan, unless the weather is silly!

I've got a new asics top that needs christening๐Ÿ˜Š....

UK could certainly do with a little cooling down, I hope the weather behaves for you BBR for your parkrun Ooh! A new top to wear, new gear, how exciting. Pretty sure my PB didnโ€™t happen today, but I still loved my run. My Garmin said 37.36 and Strava said 37.27, but a PB can wait for another time. Can hardly wait to start packing for the trip and it seems unbelievable to me that running gear is a priority to pack (and possibly buy over there too ha ha! who am I kidding there will be shoes!๐Ÿ™‚) counting down the days. ๐Ÿฅฐ โœˆ๏ธ ๐Ÿฅณ xxx
