Iโve just got back from my first benchmark run in my programme. Letโs just say it was tough and Iโm dripping everywhere, but it was satisfyingly doable!
There are 3 segments: 7 mins warm up, 3 mins going for broke running (hard) and then 5 mins warm down. 15 mins in total! I wasnโt naive to think that 15 mins wasnโt going to be tough ๐ฏ. I was dreading the 3 minute section, thinking going hard for 3 minutes is quite an ask, as you still need to carry on afterwards. And it was a challenge ๐ฆ ๐. I kind of wish the coach didnโt do the updates to say โyour half way nowโ ๐ and โone minute to goโ (not quite as bad as half way ๐), but then something just kicked in and I say โcome on, weโve got thisโ! Shoulders up and a bit more power in the legs and Iโm feeling good. Then weโre done!
You can walk after in the warm down (now she tells me), but itโs recommended to get back to a jog, so I just forget the walking bit (the hard bit is over ๐) and jog for all of the last 5 minutes, while trying to regulate my breath again of course.
Wooh...benchmarking is a whole new experience! ๐ฒ Now Iโve done it, I wonโt be afraid next time. Mystery over!๐ง ๐ These type of runs are ideal for the little park close by, as the surface is flatter. So my little park is not going to be totally redundant after all. I will go to the big parks for the long runs though. Iโm not keen to go around and around for what now feels like eternity.
So I did 2.12k in 15 minutes! Thatโs further distance in 15 than my last run. Iโm happy with that, especially considering 12 minutes of the total run was actually a light jog. Hey...not bad!! Feeling good on my new programme!๐๐พโโ๏ธ โค๏ธ

So, the App designs the runs in the programme and this one is where you have to run hard (speeding up) for a certain length of time during the run 3 minutes this time. This enables them to adjust and tailor your programme according to how you do. There might be another word for it, but thatโs what the App calls it. ๐คท๐ฝโโ๏ธโค๏ธ
Well done Fabulous. I too am having some fun (I use this term loosely..lol) doing intervals in an attempt to improve my speed. Definitely know I've done some work when I finish. I think it is great to mix it up, keeps it interesting and for me, motivating.
I agree Lori! It helps that itโs a programme tailored for you. You just go out and give it a go! Back to a few apprehensive thoughts but great feeling once completed! ๐โค๏ธ
Sure is Sallenson! Nike+! I donโt have anything to compare it with, but thereโs lots of variety! It would be very difficult to get bored. Thereโs even a โDonโt want to runโ run! ๐คฃ Iโve done that one too! ๐คฃโค๏ธ
