10k advice please!

Ok, so I’m 5 weeks post grad, nearing 5k runs (4.6 last week). I’d really like a crack at the Leeds infamous Abbey Dash on 4th November which is a 10k race. They have a 10 week training plan which does involve 2 consecutive run days (sat/sun). Does this goal seem reasonable and achievable? I’m not fast 7.30-8 minute kms), but not bothered about speed/time.

If you kept exactly to the C25K training plan and congratulations for graduating, I am sure you can keep exactly to that plan for the Leeds infamous Abbey Dash on 4th November, you'll set off the fireworks no problem with your running, keep to that plan as you kept to the C25K one, yes, I think that goal with you is reasonable and achievable, good luck.

I’m not experienced enough to advise, but good luck achieving your plan! 😃❤️

Well we’ll see, maybe over ambitious but thanks 😊.

I’m on week 3 of Juju’s Magic 10 plan (see the pinned posts for that), which many of us are using here. That gets you to 10K in 8 weeks, but a number of graduates cut that down to nearer 6 weeks. So I don’t think you’re being at all realistic. Just keep things slow and steady. I did my first 7k yesterday, and only graduated C25k a couple of weeks before starting Juju’s plan. ❤️

Yes I have downloaded this so will compare and contrast. I want to avoid running consecutive days if I can.

I think it’s a great idea - go you! I’m sure it’s realistic. I’m going to start juju’s plan when I’m back from hols I think. And fantastic having a focus too - you’ll be great! Xx

Thanks louise. Just come back from run, it is hot out there and I live in the North, about 5-10 degrees cooler than the south. I need to get to 5k before the end of August. That’s the first goal. Have a lovely holiday. 😎😎

I’m watching.... new one for £75, closes Thursday 🤞 need to remember time difference tho. Never been successful unless I’m solo bidder. Have been gazzumped last second, probably by software. X

Your goal seems very reasonable and achievable.

After a few weeks of 5k'ish consolidation runs, I also decided to step things up to 10k.

Like mountaindreamer I'm using Juju’s Magic 10 plan, which seems a little easier to follow than the training plan you've posted.

Good Luck, hope the training goes well.

I think I will go with JuJu’s, which isn’t concerned about time. The plan I posted was their slowest aimed at 60min 10k. I’ll be looking between 70-80 mins and happy to finish! 😊

I think that's a perfectly reasonable time to aim for.

We are all new runners and these distances are new to us also.

Given that most of us don't run sub 30min 5k's, a 60min 10k sounds like a very big ask!

Have you looked at ju-ju-‘s plan?

Yes (see above), I think I’ll go with hers. Although it’s shorter, it seems more achievable. 😊

Currently half way through it and finding it good. The obvious thing is the need to slow down for the longer runs.

Thanks Jay. Not quite ready to start yet, but hopefully 1st week in September. Not sure how much slower I could go! 🤔😂

I did 7k at just about my 4k and 5k pace. It nearly killed me. I will definitely be finding a slower gear for 8k on Saturday!

Good luck when you get underway.
