Keswick Parkrun 3rd time, new PB.

Great day for a Parkrun here in Keswick, cool, but sunny, light breeze.

Of 232 starters, including for the first time some friends of mine who were running 'en famille', I arrived at the finish in 198th place. Which result felt better than last week (when I thought I was last).

I've had a <expletive deleted> week running: really didn't want to go on Tuesday, and could only manage 3.2K before I just gave up and stomped home; then Thursday I did manage 5K, but only after the worst toxic 10 I've had since starting this malarkey.

However, on Friday my Couch to 5K Graduate Tee-shirts arrived, and just putting the yellow one on this morning made me determined. Plus the delight of the crowd at Parkun always lifts the spirits. In the end my best feeling both before and after, and now the results are in, my best results so far:

198 35:37VM65-6948.43%M112NHS Couch to 5kNew PB!3

Strava seemed to like it too (ain't got the hang of starting and stopping the watch yet):

5.03km 36:12mins 7:11/km

Best estimated 5k effort (35:47)

Best estimated 2 mile effort (22:39)

Best estimated 1k effort (5:56)

The secret of the good times seemed to be 'run very fast when you can see the end', it also helps if it's the downhill bit. 10k though, still seems a way off.

Love you, Runners!

The Parkrun atmosphere just makes you want to run whatever, doesn’t it Olfellow! I barely slept last night and arrived at the start line barely able to keep my eyes open. I finished buzzing. 😊❤️

Don’t compare 5k to 10k too much. 5k is speedy push, 10k pace is a slower plod. It’s not as hard to do as you think 👌🏽 Well done on your PB 👍🏽

So stamina first then. Slowing down is hard, I have a sort of natural plod. It will be like mountaindreamer changing her footfall. I hate to say it, but I might need some pacing musak.

You can't beat either some good Lutheran chorales or the English Hymnal :-) Avoid anything vaguely Taize that involves acoustic guitars....

Maybe, but I'm leaning towards more of Laura's pace musac, and just suppressing my natural 68 year-old's dislike of modern music. I may dislike it artistically, but for beat, it's hard to beat :-)

Were you wearing full clerical garb? If so that might cause some wind resistance. Maybe tuck your cassock into your pants? And avoid a biretta :-)

Are there opportunities for some form of Keswick Inter-Faith running events? Clearly non-competitive :-)

I'm a subdeacon (Bishop's Gopher). We don't wear all that stuff except in church. Biretta's are Catholic.

For running I wear a Tee, shorts, and Brooks. And that's it.

Ahhh. The humour didn't work too well then. Wasn't intended as anything other than playful humour :-) And I know what a biretta is and who wears them :-)

It's best I have found not to use religion in humour. To easy to strike the wrong chord. I wasn't in any way offended though. Just didn't see the joke.

Your doing brilliantly and well done on your PB and pace.💥🏃‍♂️💥

I am sure at this early stage, you have much more to come and when your ready you will build nicely and quickly to a 10K.

Of course if your ambition/desire is a 10K at your 5k pace then more power to you.Why not.🤔👍👏👏

Hope your experience early in the week was only a blip.I have not experienced that.

Atb and you are flying.💥🏃‍♂️💥

My reply to you yesterday seems to have got lost Oldfellow. It sounds like you had a great run. Another PB! Really sorry we couldn’t join you in Keswick but had to head south to Accrington to see the footie. ⚽️

I’m ok at starting my watch at the start line but always forget to stop it at the finish. I think it’s that thought of trying to grab your token to take to the card reader without creating a queue behind you. Next week I will remember!
