Hot Running - finding shade

Like everyone else down south, i'm finding it intolerable to run in this heat but need to get the miles in so doing my best to find way to make it easier and safer. Last night I found new shade by noodling off the beaten path a bit and was rewarded with some lovely photo opportunities. I stopped loads and drunk plenty and the only downside really other than my shoes dieing was the horrible clouds of midge you get around water of an evening when there is no wind.

Loving the relive also. relive.cc/view/1725427452

Tonight I have to do 11k so will be seeking the shade once more, but I get to try out my new Trekz Air headphones :)

Run safe everyone :)

Brilliant Pink. I always try to run by 7am otherwise I melt! No pb’s just sensible running and stopping for hydration and shade where necessary. Love it. 😎

I did manage some 5am starts a few weeks back but was then shattered for the rest of the day and since then despite setting the alarm have failed to repeat, so late evening is the only choice. I have to leave for work by 6:30 so it limits my options

I love late evening running, the light is so lovely. I am in the same boat in that I have to leave for work stupid early so running in the evening is my best option, but I think it would always be my choice anyway. In the summer the light is glorious and you can run with the bats, and in the winter it's exciting and crispy and dark.

And Trekz! To date one of my silliest impulse purchases, but one of my most successful too. Such a good idea, I love them 😄

Yes an impulse buy, but as I have chewed through 3 pairs of cheap 20quid amazon Chinese ones I felt it was worth a bigger spend. Not coming until tomorrow now though grr

You HAVE to do 11k? Or is it your OCD? 😂 Consecutive days - controversial.

No I don't have to but the plan I am following has the second run as 11k and the running is over 5 days so consec is mandatory 😉medibank.com.au/livebetter/...

Why are you Marathon training if you don’t like running?

I thought it would help me keep fit and achieve other goals. Plus it seems like a good challenge. I go to work every day also but feckin hate that too, not everything needs to be liked :) I do hope that eventually I will come to like running or at least accept it as a necessary but beneficial evil :)

I understand that. I’m still not entirely convinced I like running. Like you, I’m hoping it’s a grower 😂

Hating work isn’t good though 😞

That sounds like my kind of run... this is my approach too, makes it far more enjoyable too :)

Those revive photos look great! 😀❤️ Perhaps try lashing on some midge repellant before you set off, if you haven’t already? I’m on the lookout for recommendations for Bluetooth earphones, as my ones purchased in sales seem to die quickly... Curious to know how successfully other types work, but not keen to spend a fortune on them.

Yeah I was plastered in smidge midge repellant. I seem to have gotten a few bites but they may have happened at home after my post run shower. I find with the ones that have a cable that joins the left and right headphone, I either break the cable after a while or I suspect sweat kills them off even though most claim to be sweat proof. I have some fancy wire free sony ones that are like air pods, they sound great but have had them slip out when sweaty so don't like the idea of running with them for this reason.

Yep, heat here in the South ridiculous! I ran at 8.30pm last night and it was marginally bearable. As I was running alone I stayed on the streets as wary of cross country after 8pm by myself. So to all those running very early or late - be careful out there 👍
