Too hot for pushing myself at the moment, and after pushing to 10km, and then improving my time on that, it is time for fun. So, I went out for a dog run today. That is a run where you do not set yourself a time, distance or a pace, you just go for a run. (Though I still tracked it with Runkeeper, I have not gone completely bonkers.)
It was lovely, I felt liberated, and this reminded me of why I run. I shall continue in this carefree vein until the heat abates, then set myself a new challenge. Today was just 4km, and I stopped to take pictures, cuddle a puppy, and just enjoy the feeling of being out in the wilds. Of London. Though look at the pictures, folks, this is London! I am very lucky.
Take care in this heat, my lovely running chums.

Lovely Sadie! I did my first ‘fun run’ yesterday too. Great aren’t they with no pressure on time or distance? Running for fun before we burn to death! 🙌🏼😎🙌🏼 Xx
Hey lovely running partner-in-crime, sounds like you had a fantastic run this morning, didn't put pressure on yourself, and it really paid off. As usual, you are totally showing me how it's done! That's a genuine compliment btw, your approach is always well thought out, and inevitably I end up thinking "why didn't I just do that?".
However... I've just noticed your time which I can just about see in the picture. For someone who is just out running for the fun and stopping to cuddle puppies, that's a great time. You have still very much got it and are not looking like losing it any time soon xxx
Thank you so much, lovely Neil, this is a lovely reply, as always. I did stop my tracker a couple of times (dog cuddle, one of my walk breaks for a minute). Anyhoo, time is of no importance for me right now. I am not going to try and beat the heat, and myself in the process – I am just going to lean into it and train accordingly. I ran quite a bit, but mostly I just enjoyed. We deserve a bit of fun after the graft we put in to get to 10k, right? xxx
Oh absolutely, we do! Do you find yourself daydreaming about that next run? I've started noticing that about myself. I used to look at tech websites during my lunch break, now I'm researching run routes or coveting new trainers. Seriously, I think we're both probably a lost cause now!!
Thanks Flick. And yes, my god, 4k would have felt impossible a year ago. There is a tiny part of me that is slightly aggrieved I did not go further, but I just wanted to feel good after this run, rather than exhausted, and the heat is exhausting…x
Yes, it sure is! Going to have another dog run tomorrow, and as it is set to be 21 degrees at 6am (aaaagh!), it will probably be another sweet 4K. 😁 It is so nice too, to stop and have a drink and an amble through the woods when needs be. Taking the pressure off, but looking forward to cool temps and longer runs again. Hope all is well with you, Marvo! xxx
