Haven’t posted for a while have my 5k medal and just been steadily running 5 and a bit K since. I did the 5k on a treadmill asi have quite bad arthritis in left knee but over the last couple of months have done one or two runs a week in the open air. Now knee is pretty swollen and a bit painful so have stopped for the moment. I really enjoy the running and it has helped amazingly in all sorts of ways so looking for something else to keep fitness levels/ cardio up and not get downhearted and put some of the weight back on. Suggestions please much appreciated

You've done really well in consolidating your runs and could well begin to extend the distance gradually. I used to swim as well as run, and that is really good for joints. My knee was badly damaged (a long time ago) and it helped that a lot. As for arthritis, all joint pain and stiffness has vanished for me since cutting out dairy foods. I had seen the consultant and had a horrible steroid injection into my thumb. I reported back after a few weeks and was able to say arthritis had vanished, no pain and finger joints were straightening out. His response was that there is a correlation between arthritis and dairy products, so it might be worth a try.
It’s wine and fruit juice in my case. Gave up alcohol and juice and I’m good
Still got some in my big toe but I keep it well under control with a daily omega 3 capsule and an omega 3 rich diet. I still do dairy but cut it out if I get an injury, which 🤞😁
Thanks interesting as I have started to drink more wine than I have done actually gave up but following holiday in Sicily have rekindled the taste! Will stop for a bit and I have a fairly omega rich diet but will get some capsules.
Swimming is good and hurts the knees less.
My husband has dreadful arthritis in both knees so running is a complete no no- he has virtually no cartilage left in one of them. So he’s avoiding impact exercise. He enjoys cycling and that is far less aggravating to his knees.
that's interesting. That episode on sport from the trust me I'm a doctor bloke's program found that running rebuilds cartilage in the knee. I wonder if that would be the case for your husband if he started out slowly and built up gradually. It's certainly helped improve my injured knee.
