I got up earlyish and did my 5k run of week 5 of JuJu’s plan. Even at 7:45 when I left, it was just waaaaay too hot. I did the run, but I was slow and my legs felt like lead. The toxic 10 lasted the whole run.
But - a run is a run, and another 5k in the bank. Surely though, if I can easily do 5k now, why was that run anything but easy? I could understand it if I’d been pushing the pace, but I was way slower than my last run.
No matter, it won’t stop me, I’m putting it down to the heat, and the fact that I had a restless night. It’s all good
I know, right?! I’ve learned enough now that it doesn’t mean I’m a bad runner. As you say, onwards and upwards I’m not looking forward to 8 or 9 k on Friday if it’s still this warm :/
I’ve found the shorter runs after the long run harder too but more because of the heat. Have to agree with pinkaardvark to get out as early as poss even though 5am is crazy - no choice atm.
I have to get up at 6 for work, and they a long days with a long commute. Even getting up at 5:30 to fit in a run before tires me out, and I struggle to concentrate at work. Never mind, it’s probably going to be winter very soon 😂
It’s the heat, Neil, trust me! Though if your legs were a bit leaden, maybe not enough water yesterday? I drank GALLONS (it felt like) yesterday, and my legs were not heavy at all today (though breathing a bit harder cos of the heat). I got out at 6am today, and by 6:45 the heat was too much.
But you got a run done, and hard or not, that’s power to your legs! Well done buddy, so nice to see you out running again! Don’t dwell on how hard it was, it means nothing. I had a terribly hard 5k a couple of weeks ago for no reason I could account for. Meh!
Now relax. 😁 We are SO doing this 10k training malarkey!
Thanks dear Sadie, yes we are doing it! I thought I was reasonably hydrated yesterday and this morning, but it was very hot. I perhaps could have drunk more than I did. It’s ok though, I’ll get there eventually!
It’s not like the British weather not to rain for so long. There are now two moorland fires, one on Saddleworth more near where I live and one on Winter Hill bear where I work. It’s insane. Just a bit of rain would be lovely!
You did it 👍 but the heat wreaks havoc on you, it really does. I'm currently recovering from too much activity in the sun yesterday and can definitely say this heat can mess with you in more ways than one!! Take care out there 🤗
Gosh I hope you are recovering ok. You’re so right, the heat is brutal at the moment. I took my girls to the local church fête yesterday, I put sun cream on us all, but apparently missed a couple of bits, I know have very red ankles today 😂
I didn't burn or dehydrate, just exhaustion with nausea, stomach pains and temperature. Dioralyte to replenish electrolytes and cooling compresses did the trick but I did feel awful. Today should have been a run day but it won't be happening. A definate rest day needed.
Get some aloe on your burns. We often forget our feet!👍😉
Hey Hidden .... remember when you completed the dreaded W5R3 of C25k??? I don’t know about you but I thought I was invincible & that W6 would be a breeze, how wrong was I? I was surprised when week 6 turned out to be harder!!! Some runs are just like that Neil, you know that now...but the main thing is that you did it...you nailed it just like you’re nailing this 10k programme...the heat, the day, the sleep, the head, the mood...all of these things add up to the kind of run we have.....W5 R2 up next...can you believe it? You’re amazing!!
I remember it well... I was so surprised when I did it. Really surprised. Yup, some runs which should be dead easy are really hard. I can’t see any rhyme or reason for it.
You know what’s scary, coming up for me is W5R3 again, only this one is 8km!!
Well done Neil. I too found my run this morning very difficult but hey we did it and in the heat so good on us. Another run in the legs bank. Have a great day
Having had a four day break , I'm taking the early start posts and experiences in seriously, so thanks for the warning.I will do my wk 2 6k tomorrow crack-of.Drinking water drinking water....hope I can do it....
Good plan! Breaks are good, unless they are in your bones. Not so good then. I gather drinking lots of water the day before is good, though I have to say I don’t want to be chained to the loo the whole day 😁
Once your body becomes used to a higher intake of fluid the loo stops go back to usual. (Bear in mind that only one or two stops during a work day is really bad for you)
