Second run back after knee issue and a lovely 3k along Swansea prom on a beautiful morning. What can be better than power of running to fend off mental issues as I cope with several personal problems. And I have a question pre-knee strain I averaged 6+min km but now on 2 shorter 3k runs im averaging low 5mins?! I tried to slow but didnt seem to get out rhythm, any ideas why or how to slow down...I know it odd question but thought I would ask...have great days everyone.

Looks great. Slowing down is a hard thing to learn and I'm no expert. You can practice things like pretending your going to run into the back of something and put the breaks on. Or you could just try to run further as that can sometimes slow you down subconsciously as you prepare for the longer distance. Learning to run at and control different paces is a real skill though, maybe join a run club and run with others at different paces.

Thanks very much...glad to know its not just me then. I think you may be right that when I get back to 5k+ mark I will naturally slow. The course im running is always very similar so its not elevation. Maybe its just enthusiasm for being back out there. Thanks for taking time to reply.

Of course if you can do 5min splits for 3k maybe you should build on that by adding 500m each time until you hit 5k in 25 that's totally doable 👍

Blimey.previous 5k best was 30mins so thats a challenge. Keener to build up to get in shape for 10k but like idea of 500m/1k increases. Thanks 👍
