I did a 5k this morning - my last run of week one. I had my doubts I would manage it as I have had a slight chesty cough the last few days (hay fever related I suspect), but had plans to abort the run if it became too hard to run. Miracle of miracles my chest was fine as I ran, so I made it, happily to the end. I am still struggling to slow my pace down, but suspect that will come easier as the runs get longer, lol!
Taking on this new challenge has really motivated me again. And weirdly, I think I can do this! Trying to bring the same positivity to this as I did C25K, and visualising myself running 10k. It really helps! (But ask me again in a couple of weeks time when the distance really ramps up! Could be a whole different story...!)
Lovely weekend to you all.

Good morning Sadie, so pleased you managed the 5K. Approach the build up to 10K in the same way as you did on the C25K programme...you WILL find it easier, trust me! 🤗
Just ease off a tad, doesn’t have to be lot, and you’ll get there. All you need is a bit of PMA and get those robot legs going 😎
Thanks Ted! At this early stage, I cannot even imagine it being easier, but I trust your judgement as you have been there done that! During C25K I never allowed myself to doubt I could manage a step up, so am going to employ that mindset too. Before every run I just tell myself I am going to get out there and do it!
I found the build up to 10km ok, as I think I realised that it was possible if I followed the programme. I also did quite a lot of core and strength work on my rest days.
I still sometimes find it hard to believe that I can run 10k +.
I am doing lots of core work now, including Pilates. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that since I have strengthened my core, I have had no hip pain at all! (That I used to get on and off during C25K)
I will definitely see you at the 10k (gulp!) mark, Razouski! Thanks for leading the way. 😁
You will be fine .. just don't set out for the first 10k at your 5k pace .. slow it up a bit and then when you have it under your belt you will know what pace you can really do it at 😊.
The distance is just a mental barrier as you build up the legs as you go along so I am sure you will be fine. 👍↗️🔟
Well done Sadie on completing first week. I am starting the plan on 15th June after a few more consolidating runs. Like you it seems like "wow how will I ever run 8, 9, 10K" but I guess it's back to believing in the plan. I will watch your progress with interest. Good luck
Thanks Lorijay! And yes, I am treating this like C25K and trusting in the programme! Look forward to you joining us, in the meantime, enjoy your running! x
Brilliant Sadie-runs! I start mine with Lorijay and too can’t believe running beyond 5k! I’ve managed 5.1k 😬😬😬. Watching you with interest and all the best! 💪🏼🏃🏻♀️💪🏼🏃🏻♀️💪🏼
It’s not an easy last K! But thank you. Trying the C25k+ Speed podcast tomorrow to just change it up a bit. 😊 I’m sure you’ll set an excellent example! X
The pace will definitely come as the distances lengthen. It's very much like C25k where you realize to achieve the goals, the legs must slow down. It's hard at first, but then, one day, it comes. After taking a couple months "off" due to a chaotic work schedule, I found my legs were reverting back to the quicker "natural" pace when I started back up, but now that I'm back running around 10k, I can get into a slower comfortable pace where you want to just keep going and going and going. Enjoy the journey! It's a great one 😊
Slow comfortable pace is what I am aiming for, Sask! It’s a whole new learning curve, but just what I need right now. 😀 Glad you are up and running again - pesky work, getting in the way of real life! x
Well done Sadie-runs ....no running for me this weekend due to my ankle but hopefully a gentle jog out today sometime....
You will be fine at this, you’ve got your head on & your chart to tick so looking at your progress will spur you on....looking forward to reading all about it x
