Halloween 10k run #7 and 3rd week done!

Well this morning it looked like it was going to be a very soggy run, and I was glad I’d signed up for a virtual Halloween 10k race with medal, as I might have not gotten out there otherwise.

But monitoring the weather via the met office app, I realised there might be a window of less rain mid morning.

So I was ready, and the start of my run was in that beautiful of weathers where everything felt sparkling fresh after a shower, whilst the sun broke through and the blue sky peeked through increasing number of gaps in the less-and-less greyish sky.

And I had every kind of autumn weather on this run: refreshing drizzle, blustery winds, warming sunshine, steaming warmth, and sogging pouring rain.

I had chosen to repeat one of my loops twice, not yet wanting to venture out into the muddy unknown, as the rain had surely allowed various routes to become the equivalent of mud fun runs.

Not wanting to have that additional element to struggle with as I consolidate my 10k, I think it was a good choice. My feet stayed fairly dry and mud free, and I could focus on running and not navigating a new or slippery route.

I chose NRC’s 10k race audio guided run with Bennet, and his chatter and the associated Spotify music is actually really quite motivating for this run.

But I have yet to make 10ks feel more normal. I felt quite exhausted on arriving home.

This ends my 3rd week of my 10k consolidation plan. (Details here healthunlocked.com/bridgeto... ). Next week will focus again on a mixture of runs, including intervals, and a revisit to Runkeeper’s different voices, as well as trying out one of its audio coached runs.

Later today I’ll also be doing a scary yoga practice 🎃🤣, details here healthunlocked.com/strength...

Happy running Halloween everyone!

Well done CBDB it’s been a very strange day weather wise! 😳💦☔️💨 I’m a big fan of Coach Bennett on NRC 🏃‍♂️ It sounds like you’ve got a varied week planned. Have fun! 😀👍

Thank you. I took me some time to warm up to Coach Bennett when first I started running with him, but I’m now a big fan. I think the audio coached runs for shorter distances don’t do him justice, but those are the ones that most people initially choose. But the Intervall runs and the longer distances are brilliant!

That sounds like a really well timed run. Glad your feet stayed dry. I may try for the yoga myself this evening.

Husband has a stinking cold though, so - if he heads to bed early - I might not have access to a dog free space,

Yoga with dog? Maybe Benji makes an appearance as well? 🤣

Mine are not as chilled out as Benji, they just try to lick me to death as soon as I’m on the floor 🤣.

Ha ha … not sure I thought that on waking, but I’m pretty chuffed now! Thank you!

Well done CBDB glad you got out without any extreme weather. At least you’ve a virtual 10 km bling to show for it. Can’t say I’m into rainy weather either, plenty of it here and flooding in parts here mostly about 20:miles from us. I went out the other night in the rain just to make sure I had my 300000 steps at October Garmin , must be mad or something but got out early today and dry. Enjoy your spooky Halloween yoga 🧘‍♂️ 🙂

Thank you! Yes, I hear of flooding in various places ☹️. But wow 300000 steps. Awesome!

Brilliant CBDB, what a great hallowe’en run 🎃🎃🎃. It was a challenge today that’s for sure - well done - I almost got tripped up by strewn sticks this morning 😁.

Yeah, I was eagle-eying the ground! 🤣💨🌬🌧🌦🏃🏼‍♀️

Well done, gonna show the bling when you get it?

Congratulations on another 10k 🎃👻

I'm glad that you had a rain free window to start your run, getting wet once you are running never seems as bad as getting soaked as soon as you step out the door .

Yes, it’s funny that way, isn’t it. 🤣🤣

Wow! You’re doing fantastically with your well-planned plan! I’ve done a couple of 10ks with CB recently and really enjoyed them. (I’m now aware of the ‘third quarter’ dangers.)

🤣🤣yeah the dangers of the third quarter. I got them on this run as well!
