Morning Oldfloss, I did my graduation run of C25k this morning. I’ve been looking to see where I put my name to have Graduate miraculously appear next to my name. Can you help?
You know your committed when you have a bad week, not enough sleep (not even close), not feeling well, bad day at work, and you REALLY don't want to run... but you run anyway because you know you should. 5k on the treadmill in my cool basement with two fans running. I feel better now...still exhausted, but better. Too hot to run outside today but I miss my forest trail.
Good morning Oldfloss, my 72nd birthday was yesterday (24/5/18) and today is my rest day from running. Tomorrow Sat 26/5 will be the last time I will have a walk during my run, week 6 day 2, from then on it's all running, no walking at all. I managed round 5 run 3 Ok, that was the 20-minute run, in fact, I managed to quicken up a bit over the last 50 metres so I am optimistic that I can do the 10 non-stop runs without too much difficulty, hopefully.
Only took up running about 7 weeks ago, I have been a cyclist since I was 7 but only ran a bit when I was at school, so doing runs is new to me, so far I have liked taking part in C25K, unlike cycling when you can 'freewheel' or change to different gears some of the time, with running you cannot really have rests unless you walk, just slow down a bit, however as I already run or more correctly jog I cannot slow down much more as I would just be 'running' at walking pace. I live well inland in Scotland but if my running plan goes to schedule, I will run round 9 run 3 along the seafront in Helensburgh on Monday 18th June. which is about 35 miles from where I live in Cumbernauld, which is 13 miles northeast of Glasgow.
Thanks Tbae, you know Scotland quite well, usually my 3rd run of any week takes me well away from home, last week I completed W5 run 3 running around Linlithgow Loch, tomorrow Monday I will be doing run 3 of week 6 about 15 miles away in Fife, Kincardine, the first couple of kilometres of the Fife Coastal Walk, that starts in Kincardine and ends beyond St Andrews about 50 miles on, as it is not a circular this time I intend to run, well jog for the first 13 minutes, make a U turn and the remaining 12 minutes I should return back to Kincardine.
Hello Tbae, this morning I completed run 3 of week 6, I ran for 25 minutes along the first couple of kilometres of The Forth Coastal Path, the weather was quite cloudy and cool, luckily I finished it before the heat started, I am now home in Cumbernauld and there is not 1 cloud in the sky, so I am now "officially a runner" I feel great and am looking forward to the next round of longer runs on C25K
Later in the graduates 5k+ podcasts with Laura , her running tips she suggests lifting your heels and imaging your feet running with a circular motion like cycling.
Enjoy it all Al, Run because we can.
I am delighted for you and the joy this malarkey brings.🌟👏👏
Thank you Tbae, all that cycling I have done since I was 7 no doubt has helped me now that I have taken up running, I do my runs first thing in the morning, I do have a drink with me so I don't get dehydrated, if this warm weather continues, I might take my cycling water bottle with me, it's chilled, thermostatically controlled, it does not get warm as the day goes on, a normal bottle does get warm quite quickly. So far here where I live we have avoided those 'spectacular' thunderstorms that have taken place in England, OR did we miss something which was most unusual.?!
Many very experienced runners have posted on here.
Hydrate every day and on your repair day in preparation for you next day run.
2/3 litres per day.
Last minute does not cut it, in fact caution is required to excessively hydrate last minute.Do not know enough to compare your long cycling experience with running requirements.🤔
Decided last minute to go off on Friday , family stuff, so will miss F/S/S this week, now hydrating sufficiently to do a 10K easy runs Tues and Thurs early morning so I can get my 20k in for this week. Also will have to do a strength gym session on each afternoon.👍
Hi Oldfoss, 12.22pm Monday 28 May, Just over 3 hours ago I "officially became a runner" yes I completed week 6 run 3 in 25 minutes. My pace averaged 08.21/km for the first 23 minutes, cadence, steps per minute about 164, I felt really good so for the final two minutes, my pace increased to 07.38/km, about 170 steps per minute. I feel fine and look forward to the other two 3x25minute runs in week 7 runs 1 2 and 3.
Thank you Oldfloss for your reply, yes I will continue and enjoy, now at 6 pm I don't have any adverse effects from my 25 minute run this morning. I feel I could do another run this evening but of course, I will not be doing that, next one on Wednesday morning around my local area park.
30th May 2018 10.30am, Hi to you Oldfloss and Tbae, I lost my Internet Connection on Monday evening at 19.15, it did not come back until 05.58 on Wednesday morning so I am not sure just where I am at the moment, that's why I put the date on at the start, The loss of the Internet was caused by some powercut with my Internet Service provider, anyway, this morning at 0850 I run my second 25 minute run of week 7 run 2 around my local Broadwood Loch in Cumbernauld, it went OK I met two lady joggers running in the opposite direction and said hi to both of them, will be doing my 3rd 25 minute run locally on Saturday, if the weather is good I plan to do my 4th 25 minute run around Mingavie water works next Monday.
Hi Floss! Quite pleased as I did 4.3k on Saturday afternoon and 3.25k today, both in the heat (quite humid today as well). The hip/groin thing is just reminding me it's there, but not stopping me. I'm taking it easy and will leave it a while before I attempt 10k again. It's my wedding anniversary today (30th) so having showered I am just going to pour us a wee glass of prosecco. Cheers! 😀
