Just been trying to work out how many miles these shoes have travelled. I think it's about 300 miles of running (on tarmac / hard tracks) and 300 or 400 miles walking (mix of all terrain types). How much wear do you tolerate before buying new ones? Thinking I might buy new shoes for running only and keep wearing these old ones for walking. They're Brooks Ghosts and super comfy. Any top tips as to equivalent other shoes I should try?

Time for new shoes? Top tips?
I wear On Cloud and On Cloudflyer, both fantastic road shoes. For off road I have Asics fujirado. But shoes are a very personal thing, and it would be best to have another gait test and see what suits. If you have been happy with the Brooks, why do you want to change? BTW, everyone should have their gait retested from time to time, as gait can change. And you shouldn't really keep running in shoes that have definite signs of wear on the soles, because other parts of the shoes will also have worn and could be causing you problems or even injury.
I hadn't heard of the on cloud shoes. Why change? Well - just like cars, clothes, food, it's good to add variety from time to time in search of the ultimate experience Waaay back in the 1980s I used to run in Nike Pegasus small men's shoes as that was about the only decent running shoe. 30+ years later I find my feet are wider and longer - a combination of age and wearing crocs? I also have Morton's neuroma in both feet so now need a spacious front but with narrow ankles. The ideal might be a hybrid with running shoe at the heel and ankle with a wide Croc midsole /toe! There's a limited range at my local runnjng shop and the Brooks Ghost appeared to be the only viable option last time I visited
Ok, understood. And I will go wirh the variety thing, having more than one pair of running shoes myself - but I suppose the one thing is that eqxh edition of shoes a company brings out, they make changes in colour and other stuff, so you are getting a different shoes, in effect. The On shoes may not suit as they are narrower than many, esepcially the Clouds. Do keep us posted as to what you get - with a pic of course 😊
I’m advised you should get at least 500 Miles/ a years wear, out of a decent pair of shoes, however as Hidden says, it’s a very personal thing, depends on the make, the surface you run on, whether you run ‘heavy’ or ‘light’. I think I was advised once that once you break through the coloured part ie the blue, part of the sole on yours, and see the white underneath it’s time for new ones, they are built to wear down like that.
I’d advise go to a decent running shop and get their advice on whether the wear and cushioning are on the way out, a decent place should help you and not try and sell you more shoes. Plus if you’re getting any niggles, this may be a sign of needing your gait re assessed.
Happy shopping!

Log your shoe miles on your app. There might be a mileage limit on the spec of your shoes. I think brooks gives this info. If not, it’s on the Internet. sometimes they don’t make the mileage before wearing out
Go to a running shop and try lots on! 😃
Interesting info about wearing through the coloured part of the shoe! I thought it would be more like tyre tread on cars - once the tread is gone on part if thd shoe it's time to replace! I keep seeing 250 to 500 miles as expected life of shoes after a quick Google. Might have to go shopping ... I would keep wearing these for light walking anyway. Still comfy, but got a couple of holes in the fine mesh uppers - 1st time that's happened!
We like shopping! 😍......(said she who’s just this instant bought a new pair of trail shoes.....) 😄🏃♀️

Oh, excellent. I have the Fujirados and they are brilliant. X
My Garmin connect app for my running watch has a shoe section you add the make and model of your running shoe. It logs your miles on each run and gives an alert when the shoes need replacing. I'm using Brooks Neuro 2's and it suggests to replace after 400 miles .....Which will be a long time before I hit that milage if my current running form doesn't improve!
I’m no expert but...
I was told 500 miles when I bought my shoes. Also, my husband (a keen runner for over 40 years) knows that it’s time for new shoes when he begins to get grumbling minor injuries.
Thanks Elfe5, I think I will go shopping before I get extra injuries - it's a constant battle with arthritic knees and neuromas in my feet anyway!
I can feel the road through my kinvara’s now. I clock the mileage on them and I have about 30 km left on them I have a fresh pair waiting in the wings, which I bought yonks ago for £28.
My Nikes have worn out before their due date unfortunately but that could be down to the pully dog He wears my socks out anorl 🙄
