Had this stupid lurgy for weeks now & have caught what feels like a cold on top...went off to have another crack at the local parkrun & had to stop at 3.5k because i wasnt feeling well & couldnt continue!!!
So of course...now...i am sitting at home feeling sorry for myself & thoroughly defeated ๐
Be honest....are you still ill? (And it sounds like you are) If so then you have nothing to be deflated about! You have to get better before you can run. Sending you extra buckets of patience ๐
Thankyou ๐ its tricky because i am now effectively a single parent...self employed with a very physical job so i HAVE to keep going week in week out as i am not in a financial position to have time off...so i kind of automatically assume that i can still run too!!!it would seem that is not the case ๐
In which case you have an awful lot on your plate!
Sometimes something has to give (if only for a short while) so I would rest from running a few more days and see how you/your chest is. After all these niggles can be your body's nudge to say listen to me a minute. Or, if you need to be out there for yourself i.e. headspace, why not go for a walk and have a little jogget during it? Leave the programme alone until you are better. Wishing you back to full health tout de suite๐
Oh no sounds like you should be resting up. It's very difficult to know when to do this though, because we are always so keen to get out there and at it, we think.... I'll just give it a try. Sometimes we get away with it and sometimes our bodies just say no!
Wait a minute though..... 3.5k with the lurgy AND a cold? Sounds pretty amazing to me. Very admirable that you even tried. Park run will be there when you are better and you will fly again like the last time
No run is a wasted run, we learn something from every one, even if it doesn't feel like it at the blinking time! Seems to me that you are determined and strong and don't give up easily. Take care and get well soon x
You did well to get as far as you did ๐๐. Perhaps now rest up a few more days? I know it's not what you want to hear but the old saying "above the neck - exercise, below the neck - no exercise" often rings true. If you're chest is still feeling tight maybe you need a bit more time or a visit to the dr/pharmacist? Hope you are back to full fitness very soon.
Hi have you tried Sudafed nasal spray. It opens the nasal airway for about 10 hours but it expels the gunk thatโs up there into you throat for you to get rid of๐คง๐คข๐คฎ. I have used it a number of times when I feel it coming on me and I havenโt had a cold not even a sniffle for about two years. You never know it may work for you. At ยฃ4 itโs not expensive either ๐

Oh no i havnt...thankyou...sounds like its worth a go ๐
No..., no, no... when are you going to be kind to yourself.... pull back a bit.. be gentle with yourself?
You are amazing...totally amazing... looking after small one and working too... ease up.. the runs will still be there and if you do run..keep it short, sweet and fun...
Use your runs to relax and release... enjoy them and let the stress go... don't pile more on.
Hug that small one..pat yourself on the back and tell yourself that you are awesome...
I donโt think youโve fully recovered have you Hidden ?? I think youโve gone out too soon...wait now until youโre 100%...you know what youโre capable of but only when your fit & well...we donโt want anymore defeats...I agree with Oldfloss ...be kind to yourself...maybe some shorter runs when youโre feeling up to it x
You are right ๐ i find it so tricky to gauge...my mind is always without fail 100 % up for it no matter how rubbish i am.feeling & because i have to push myself so hard all week.to keep going for work i always assume the same can be said for running...apparently thats not quite how it works!!!the other issue i have is that i really need the focus of my runs to help with everything that i am up against at the moment...but i will learn...eventually xx
I know what you mean...thatโs because you need running & you will be in denial that youโre not quite up to it because of that need, but you know as well as we do that long term that will only do more harm than good...slow, short runs...10/15 mins tops...be kind to yourself...please? X
I will.do my very best...i found the pressure of the park run way too much today too...i need to run alone for the time being if at all...i think behind it all is the fact that i have spent my entire 44 years telling people i cannot run...i am.not a runner...& now i am finally capable i want to grasp it with both hands x
Feel your pain ... been out of action for about 10 days now with a cold that went to my chest. Hoping to head out tomorrow for a wee 3k just to get my wheels back in motion but with the level of coughing and breathlessness still with me, it's not looking likely ... damn these flippin' germs! Speedy recovery to us both eh?
Oh I'm so sorry. I think you need a proper rest and someone to look after you (I know that is a bit like suggesting you get a pumpkin and wait for it to turn into a carriage...).
You've been poorly for ages now and sound so run down, and are probably exhausted both physically and mentally. How I wish I could magic myself over to you, cook you a good square meal and lend a hand...
In the meantime, be kind to yourself. You're a cracking runner so don't feel down about your Parkrun. You need more rest and perhaps even a visit to the GP who might be able to advise on how best to get back on your feet. xx
Oh bless you...thats so nice ๐i have been really poorly since then so its no wonder i had to bow out!!!it is very hard to rest as i cant afford time off work...i am self employed with a very physical job & it goes without saying that the soon to be ex does NOTHING to help at home!!!
