Hi, I felt exactly the same before my first 10k race a few months back.

Take the pressure off a bit - I told myself that although I hoped to run the entire thing it would be absolutely no big deal if I needed a walk break at some point. (As it turned out, I didn't, but was amazed at how many people actually did walk at some point.)

I started off right at the back and set off really really slowly... then increased my pace as and when I felt like it. Don't get carried away with it all and go off too fast.

Give yourself plenty of time to register, pin on numbers, go to loo 19 times, etc... so you don't get your knickers in a knot before you start.

Most of all, enjoy it!

And best of luck!

Get there a little early to sort out where to go and the numerous nervous loo trips. I started near the rear and set out at a steady pace, overtaking others as I went. Once in your stride you will feel more confident and can pick up your pace. Smile for the cameras and enjoy the run.

I was equally anxious when I did my first official 10k race. But once there, I had an extra surge of Adrenalin and was surprised at myself. Having people along the way cheering helped, and I found I even had enough left in my legs for a short sprint at the end.

I’m sure you’ll be fine. Good luck. 👍🏽

You can do this! We are all with you, cheering you on!

Make sure you know where you can park, and how far it is to the registration desk etc. unless you already have your number. Give yourself loads of time for queues - registration queues and especially loo queues! Be prepared for the mad rush at the start (I usually start at the back) and for people run/walking and overtaking you several times :D If you have a plan, stick to it - don't think that just because everyone else is galloping off at the start you have to go with them because otherwise you will be last. Run your own pace, whatever that may be.

You will be fine - enjoy!
