So happy to have completed this today. I knew I wouldn’t be able to run it all but I took short walking breaks every 10 mins or so and came in at 1.15 which is good for me.
The worst part was waiting to go through the gate. I had no idea that it would take so long to get through. I was near the back, so spent a long time waiting and getting more nervous. Once it started tho I felt better. I will definitely bear this in mind for next time. The seasoned pros seemed to turn up later.
It was hot but running through the city (the middle part) was a bit cooler as there was a breeze which helped. Sir Mo finished before me (funny old thing).
The crowd were amazing, it really did help as I was beginning to flag at 7.5k
I’m feeling v contented now having just eaten greasy pizza. I may do another - not this week tho! 😊😊

Thanks so much. I did honestly think before I started that I may cry or be sick- then it was fine. Happy I’ve got the first one over and done with now. 😊
He went so fast I couldn't see! I think to be honest he finished the race before I'd even started. At one point I was overtaken by someone in a chicken suit tho (just had a flashback) - that was motivating!!!
Well done Emma, it takes sometimes as much as 50 minutes in those longer 10k, half or full marathons for us 'ordinary runners' to get to the starting line, yes indeed some of the elite runners like Mo have completed the run before many have even got to that starting line, remember, your time starts at that line, not what the clock says at the beginning or end of the race.
Thank you. It’s definitely something I will bear in mind for the next time. Luckily we were texted our time shortly after getting over the timing mats at the end - amazing organisation- so I was lucky I didn’t have to wait around for long. 😊
Thanks, TedG - I'm happy I've done it, and I wouldn't rule out doing it again for sure. I just need to concentrate on the continuous running for a bit now to bring up my stamina I think. I'm delighted tho with the time and between us (5 people) we raised over £9K for charity which was amazing.
Well done you Whoop! Whoop! I bet Sir Mo was scared😬. Fab time aswell and having little walking breaks every 10 mins was a great call.
Peggy, he had to run fast to keep away from me haha. I mean he should probably thank me for helping him get such a great time!! It was good bling and actually, the race itself was good (Im hesitant to call it fun) but I think I did enjoy it a bit.
Emma I think he should thank you too! I’m hoping to do a 10k race some when.It was supposed to be in October. However I’m working that weekend so if I can’t changed with someone it will have to be another time.
Good luck and keep us posted. The only bit of advice I can give you is the start seems to take for ages so don’t line up too quickly. 😃😃. And happy running to you too 🏃♀️
Thanks - its definitely a learning curve, and hopefully I won't be so wound up/nervous at the start of the next one. A hill race sounds interesting ...!
