So after receiving my Blyth 10k entry details recently today was the start of a concerted effort to get back to longer runs and faster times after very few runs over the last 3 weeks.

It was still a case of running around the village as despite a spring like feel today the country paths are still flooded so I set off at a steady pace unsure how it would go after the long layoff.

However after 2k all felt good and I really pushed for the rest of the run with the last kilometre at 6.02.

30 odd seconds off my previous best and I am tonight a very happy bunny.

Run happy, run safe.

I can't do that over the longer distances, I try to run steady 7 mins per km.

would be well chuffed to run that pace for 5k

Wow! Impressive pace. Had you been doing anything previously that would have helped with the pace? I want to increase my pace also over 5k and wondered if you had any tips? :-)

To be honest my 5k pace has actually been generally slower since Christmas and I was really surprised at the time. I read somewhere that good times often follow a longer spell without a run as the legs are completely rested but the lay off isn't long enough to lose fitness. So maybe that was it!!

Well done Chris...nifty time. I'm up to my ears in big gardening jobs and long dog walks. Pretty much Heaven actually: I can't believe how lucky I am.

I actually recorded my walking distances this week and the monsters and I are covering 65 km a week. Ha, no wonder I am knackered before I start my runs. I think I'll have to do my run before we wander off into the distance.
