Possible injury advice

Morning all, I awoke this morning to a tingling sensation to my right foot. It’s swollen around the ankle and tender when I press the inside ankle bone. I also get a sharp pain the left side of the foot occasionally too.

I’ve googled it and the symptoms indicate metatarsalgia......anyone experienced this condition?

If it persists, I will visit the doctor 🙄

Your advice would be welcome 😊

I had something similar, very similar symptoms but l didn't stop running and the injury flared up to the point that l couldn't run for over 3 months. Put some ice on it, rest up as long as possible but if the pain on touch (even remotely, deeply) persists, go and see a sports physio.

GP would probably recommend pain killers and rest but if it's something more serious, and at this stage you simply can't tell, you need professional help.

All the best of luck!

Thanks Mrrun, I’m going to rest it and see how it goes. I’ve done well to escape injury up to this point, especially at my age, so not done too bad considering!

It may not even be a running injury but going to err on the side of caution.

Oh no, poor you! You are doing such a great job on the 10k plan. I had to abandon my 8km last week due to a dodgy left leg/sciatica. And whilst I was a miserable old cow because I couldn't go out - I made myself rest and stretched it well, blah, blah. I couldn't bear to make it worse and not be able to run for a longer period of time - better to proceed cautiously than risk a long term injury.

Mrrun knows what he's on about, he's been through some serious injury stuff.

Keep us all posted as to how you are, finger crossed for you :)

Thanks Fpf, I hope you get out soon, it’s going to do my head in not getting out! 😬

I’m obviously not going to do my planned 9k on Thurs. Some HIIT on the exercise bike will have to be suffice....did 15 mins this morning without any discomfort 😊

Keep us posted on your 8k 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Oh no, hope it doesn't prove to serious and you aren't out for long. Im edging back into it slowly, a very slow 2k the other day and a quicker one tonight.

Get well soon.

I have some medical training. I’m not an expert and I can’t see and examine your ankle but if you’ve got swelling it suggests significant injury and I would be cautious about any exercise until you have a diagnosis. Follow mrrun’s advice, go and get seen, possibly an x-ray .

I would take C25kkate and mrrun’s advice. If you have a burning sensation when you walk or run on it (or only when you run) then it could be a stress fracture. I did my inner ankle bone too and it took 2 months to fully heal. It was several weeks before I got it diagnosed and only then thanks to an experienced podiatrist. Take it easy, rest and definitely get it checked by the docs! Once you’ve had it checked you’ll know what it is and you’ll be back running in no time!

Thanks Fi, the swelling went down the next day along with the pain. I still have the numb tingling feeling from the knee down, I’m maybe putting it down to my back condition. I’m planning on a short jog on Sunday to see how it goes 😊

Sounds like you may need a trip to the osteopath! Hope you’re back to full strength soon and all goes well on Sunday!

Hope things are improving further, but like the others have said, err on the side of caution (I know it's easier said than done).
