Good morning everyone. It is Saturday again which means it is (not)parkrun day. It is awful where I am weather wise this morning, drizzle and heavy rain. I have not run myself in a couple of weeks. I got a sore right foot and ankle recently, I did not know what was causing it. Last Sunday I could hardly walk on my right foot. So I took a break from running to allow it to heal. Turns out I have Plantar fasciitis. Pain in my foot and ankle has gone now thankfully, but still a twinge in my heel, not bad but I'll give it a rest for another couple of days. I will try a light easy run on Tuesday and see how that goes.
For anyone looking at this and wondering what am I on about, a group of us here every Saturday or Sunday run 5K, we pretend it is our parkrun. We pop back here after our run and we write a little run report. It is just a bit of fun and little bit of motivation for us to keep running until the real parkrun does return. Everyone is welcome to join in and walk, jog or run 5K. So come along and join in.
Stay safe everyone and Happy running.
Damien

Sorry about your injuries Damien, hopefully you will not be too long on the Injury Couch and be able to run again.
The weather where I am in Central Scotland is cloudy but dry, I ran my 48th not parkrun in a time of 33.59 which is the fastest run of this year, the temperature was about 10C.
Wishing you well, just rest and read all about the others who have ran today π
Yes I do, I was happy to get a sub 35 minute 5K, very happy to get under 34 minutes.... justπI am not sure if I will ever get back to around 31 minutes again, but getting sub 35 minutes is fine for now.
PS I forgot to mention that just two minutes after I completed that run I met a member of my Thursday morning walking club, she was sitting in a car with her husband and as I passed she shouted out the window to me 'good morning Alan', I told her that I had just run a 5K, I showed her my Smartphone with the map and times etc, she congratulated me, I then said 'are you going a walk around the loch'? her husband then said 'maybe'.
The walking group are devided into three groups, to walk 4K, 2K and for the slowest walkers there is a 1K walk, of course I am in the 4K group, that walk usually takes around 45 minutes although we gave done it in 42 minutes, that lady who I met yesterday is in the 2K walking group.
Well done Al. You are showing me the way on building up again. Hoping for my first trot out of the week later following more physio. Patience is the thing!!π
As Frank said on his song "I Do it My Way", Al's way to 10K was to increase a run by 1K a week until I got to 10K, if you wish to do it that way, you are welcomeππtake the physios advice.
Yes; I built back up to 10 k just as you describe last month, but I was struck down again on shorter runs at the beginning of this month. Somehow I have been irritating the peroneal muscles (bottom of the calf on the outside of the leg). Feels great at the moment and I have some new variations on exercises to keep this group of muscles loose; so off we go again! π
Well done as always Al. I'm feeling much better now. I ran and walked 5K yesterday evening and managed a 5K walk today at lunch time. I managed a sub 35 minute yesterday evening too.
Well done to you Damien on those 5K walks and runs, regarding the return of parkruns in the UK, it now looks doubtful if they will resume at least in England on the 5th June, for two reasons, 1 not all the landowners, mainly councils have given permission and secondly this new Indian variant of Covid 19 is causing some concerns in parts of the UK, hopefully the parkruns will return in July or August..
Oh no Damien, plantar fasciitis is (literally) a pain. Fingers crossed it passes soon. There are some good yoga foot stretching videos on YouTube if youβre interested. I get cramp in my feet and they really help.
Itβs just drizzly here but we did run with Shake-and-run in a real downpour earlier on in the week - the park was beautifully empty!
Jab still having an effect on my stamina this week so the run still felt harder than normal this morning. Still, I was very happy to see 27:30 when I finished, there was just nothing to give it any welly anywhere and the pace breakdown was an extremely steady 5:27-5:36/km.
Hopefully a North Wales route next Saturday and then maybe only one more before the restart π€π€π€
We were talking about you fondly yesterday TC, and how speedy you and Katnap have become! Amazing time for your (not) PR even if you werenβt feeling tip-top! See you in a couple of weeks - for a split second until you disappear into the distance! π€£π€£
π€£π€£ youβre playing catch-up cheeky! I reckon youβve got some speed in you with JRS. Itβs a combination of the hills and I have to try and keep up with Katnap. He usually speeds up and leaves me for dust for the last k as I gasp round petrol station corner.
That's still a good pace! I'd be struggling to keep up.
I'll be in North Wales in July, assuming the Northwest doesn't get another regional lockdown. It'll be my Dad's 80th. My last visit there was when I was doing W3R2 of C25K in glorious sunshine on totally quiet country lanes.
PS. Thanks for connecting on Strava. It always takes a bit of head scratching to match people up with their forum names. π
Cheers nowster π Itβs a fun part of the game but you made it easy by putting your tag name in. My name is long enough without that one as well!
Letβs hope not. Weβre trying to catch up with parents too. Love going to North Wales, donβt recall much in the way of glorious sunshine though π Quite a challenging place to run anytime let alone the early weeks of C25k!
Very well done TC. Great time and pace. I am feeling much better. The exercises have paid off. I managed a 5K walk and run yesterday evening and a 5K walk today at lunch time.
I've not had PF myself, and I probably won't while I continue to wear minimalist shoes. They're supposed to be good for that sort of thing.
I'm probably not going to be able to get a 5km run in today. The groin niggle turns out to be an overworked adductor according to the physio, due to tight/lazy glutes and hamstrings, and I'm under orders to stop a run as soon as it starts giving the pulling sensation again. On Thursday I only got about 2.5km before that happened. I'm currently waiting for a gap in the rain before heading out today.
What I did do was a 6km walk yesterday evening, picking up our usual Friday fish-and-chips-twice order from the chippy on the return leg. I must have made a comical sight at one point near the end of it trying to walk in a way that involved the hamstring muscles more.
Oh no, I hope your foot will be better soon.A fairly unremarkable (not)parkrun today 4 minutes running, 45 seconds walking. Apart from missing one walk section as I was running downhill on a lovely gentle gradient.
I really find this Jeffing lark good for my legs and as anyone who knows me should already be aware, I care not a jot about my times (within reason! ). I found one minute walking a bit long and 30 seconds a bit short so this latest setting of 45 seconds seems just right and to be honest the average pace over 5 to 6 km is about the same as my all-running average pace, possibly slightly faster.
We went to the golf club afterwards and decided to risk eating out rather than a takeaway 2nd breakfast. We timed it just right - a short shower (outside the house ) just after we finished our showers (in the bathroom)
Oh nice. Breakfast and showers in a Golf Club after. That worked out well. Yes I am feeling much better, did a 5K running and bits of walking yesterday evening and got a 5k walk in today at lunch time. Seems good.
I was secretly hoping I might do it this month but didnβt put it as part of my quest deliberately. Last May I was recovering from an injury trying to run sub 30 after C25k. Todayβs run mantra was βfor the Katsβ π€£
Yes first one. I could have cried crossing the finishing line but Iβm still a reserved English lass by birth. Will leap around possessed next time for you π€£
I was thinking about you as I managed to find an UpTheStanley who unknowingly helped pace me for kilometre 4. He left me for dust on the last k but did the job for my first sub 30 π€£
Congratulations to you RunWillie on achieving your first sub 30 minute 5k, excuse me, but I thought you were a man, Willie is short for William in the UK, anyway, I now know you are female when you said "I am still a reserved English LASS by birth."
Hello Damien Iβm sorry to hear about your foot and ankle woes and glad to read that it is improving. Iβm hoping to get out later today or tomorrow for my not Parkrun.
Good morning everyone, after a series of short runs I joined you all today and did a longer run, at 5k I thought βThatβs it, thatβs my not parkrun doneβ Hope your foot heals well Damien and everyone else is well
Well done to you on that 5K not parkrun, hopefully the official Parkruns might start soon, although the latest estimate for the start may not be the 5th of June.
Sorry to hear about your PF Damien. It does seem to be quite a risk for us runners. Hope you can get it sorted out quickly.
I did my (not) Parkrun this week on Tuesday in the hilly surroundings of beautiful Loch Lomond in a time of 35.51. Been on the move all week around the North Coast of Scotland, but hoping for a 5k at Durness on Tuesday as we have a 2 night stay there π€ Most north westerly village on the mainland so would give good boasting rights ππ
The midges are not too bad in May, the worse months for midges in Scotland are from mid June to the end of September, August being the worst, depending on the weather.
Hope your foot problems are behind you as understand PF painful. Did an 8k today and like Sola felt good to get 5k in the bag before continuing. Bit slower but had a few roads to cross and youβre in the lap of the traffic gods if you have to tread water or get a clear run across the busier roads. Perfect running weather with just a little drizzle to cool down π
Ouch Damien, PF is nasty. I had it fairly mildly during C25K, but I was able to run through the discomfort. In fact running felt better than walking. I hope youβre on the mend. π€
A late check in from me today. I arrived home an hour ago from the Reunion 5k at Kempton Park. I met up with Dexy5 , UpTheStanley and Oldgirlruns (OGR was our official spectator!) Iβm sure thereβll be a more detailed post from one (or more) of us later. π
Anyway, a pleasing 33:41 for me. My 2nd quickest 5k, and definitely the most official as it was chip timed. I set off quickly and got a 2 mile PB! Couldnβt sustain that so slowed a bit for the final 2k! It also didnβt have the helpful final downhill km like the common does, so Iβm especially pleased with that time. π
Fingers, toes and everything else crossed that this pilot event helps PR and races in general return safely. It felt so lovely being in amongst loads of other runners again. β€οΈ
Oh fantastic and very well done Cheeky. What a wonderful way to get back to running in a crowd and meeting running buddies. Delighted you had a good run and a wonderful time. My PF is much better.
So sorry to hear about the PF Damien- I had it last year and itβs horrible! Have you found the exercises on the NHS website - thereβs loads of them and they really do help! Iβm still not eligible to post here as I still canβt manage 5k but the hip is getting better (very!) slowly so fingers crossed!
Thank you. I am much better. I had a Tennis ball under my desk which I used whilst working. Also did some other exercises which worked out well. I managed a gentle 5K yesterday and a 5K lunch time walk today.
Today I gained my 2nd best (not) parkrun time at 32.08 and it has to be said that the best one was with a gale behind me for all 5k, so Iβm very chuffed. Best of all, I ran the first 2.5k with cheekychipmunks and it really did feel like a parkrun, as a lot of us wore the apricot and milestone shirts. A separate post to follow.
Oh very well done Dexy5 and excellent running You both look splendid in your parkrun tops. Congratulations on your 2nd best (not) parkrun time. How wonderful to be running in a crowd again.
Really sorry to hear about the PF Damien. It was a very uneventful 5k for me today, but I did manage to achieve 29.43 with 77% at HR zone 3, so can't be bad!
Really pleased to hear this week that Portsmouth Lakeside parkrun has permission to return - let's hope many others get the same this week! π€
Sorry to hear about the PF, never had it myself but know others who have suffered from it. Anyway, rare for me to (not) parkrun on a Saturday these days, but today (as already reported by Cheeky Chipmunk) Dexy and I headed off for the Reunion 5k at Kempton Park. And the joy of running with a crowd again led me on to a startling 23β52β chip time - my first sub-24 since New Years Day 2020. Positive split - 11β42 and 12β10β - down to over-enthusiasm at the start, but still well pleased ππto put it mildly. Altogether a grand day out!
Wow super running UTS. That is fantastic and very well done. It must have been so amazing to be able to run in a crowd again and soak up the atmosphere.
Hi Damien, sorry to hear about your PF...my granddaughter had to stop C25k with that βΉοΈ
Original plan was to run Friday, but got offered a shift, so left it until today.
I ran my old main road lockdown route...was used mostly for 30 minute Consolidation runs...but able to extend to 5km.
Elevation of 60 metres...some quite steep...so a good training run. Managed to shave 5 seconds of my PB for a time of 41:23. Splits: 8:01, 8:23, 8:15, 7:58 and 8:01...average pace 8:07/km.
Weather wasnβt as bad as expected...a slight drizzle, which soon stopped.
Hope your PF is sorted soon. I am on Day 10 of no running. I think I only have one niggle left. I found a great stretch for the outside of my calve so I hope to be back for a short 3K on Thursday and hopefully a (not)parkrun 5K on Saturday. At least I have been doing some stretch and strength plus walking.
Thankfully I am feeling much better now. I went for a run on Monday evening and I did a 5K walk yesterday. My legs are stiff, but in a good way. Hope you get back to running too this weekend. The rest and exercising are key.
