Perhaps a stupid question but as they say there are no such things as stupid questions only stupid answers so here goes! Is this forum designed for people reaching for 10K, people who have graduated from C25K (that is run for 30 minutes) or both.

I feel a bit of a fraud as whilst I have completed C25K I have not done 5K so it seems wrong to be posting in a forum about reaching for 10k when I am still reaching for its kid brother 5k .. hence the question.

Might sound daft but as they say there is a time and a place for everything and at the moment 10K is about as far off from my thinking as C25K was last Christmas!

Not a daft question at all Richard... and you are sensible for asking... :)

People head across here after they graduate... and are able to run those 30 minute runs happily and comfortably. ( They do not have to be running 5K or 5K in 30 minutes).

This site.. ( I call it the Big School) .. takes you onwards...:)

We do ,as you know, from C25K forum...totally advise consolidation of the thirty minute runs, different routes etc...and maybe, as you have done, with Stepping Stones, already :) trying the C25K+ podcasts if you fancy it.

After a couple or so weeks, you can then decide where you want to go... it may be for you, reaching 5K, or just letting your runs evolve and build up slowly.

If you want to build up distance, then you continue the work on the three runs a week, building up stamina and strength, and those running muscles. You may find after a few weeks, you feel you would like to think about a 10K programme.. slow and steady and structured... and there will be loads of advice and suggestions for on here.

The more runs you do..the stronger you get and the distance does, with many of us increase... ( not necessarily speed though) !

So,... stick around... see what is going on... ju-ju- is doing a 10K programme, but it may be a tad early for you to think about this time round.. I am just finishing one of her earlier models, to try to get me back to where I was before the IC... a six week one that is brilliant!

I hope this helps... there are quite a few folk on here whom you know already!

Thanks for clarifying - I love the “Big School” name. Also for the advice - right now I am happy I am running - at some point I will get to 5k but doubt it will be anywhere near to 30 mins. Like you say 10k is a tad early - not even entertaining the idea of that - but who knows what the future holds.

For a fleeting moment I had a view of all of us at a long school dining room table sitting on long benches in our running gear! Must have been a rest day though as otherwise we would have all been out running.

You've had an excellent reply from Oldfloss so I won't be adding anything other than to say if you're aiming for 5k how about Parkrun. It's a great event, lovely atmosphere and if you need to walk some of it you won't be the only one.

Good luck with your future runs!

Thanks - I have already joined up and it is in the plan. Just not timetabled yet.

That's very sound advice. Easy to put it off and find excuses but parkrun is every week so unless you work Saturday mornings there is really no reason not to. Go on, get to your local parkrun this weekend. Don't worry about being slow, if you've done c25k then you are pretty much guaranteed not to be last. 😀

Not as simple! My wife wants to do it too but whilst being fitter than I was she has not run for years. So weighing up the get out there and do it vs her disappointment at me not waiting! At the moment keeping up the 3 times a week is keeping me going but I will bite the bullet sooner or later!

Tell her...if she starts.. we will run with her :)

Welcome over to the orange side!!! It's good to see you. ☺👀

I was wary about venturing over here too. I lurked in corners of the class for a bit to see if I was in the right room. I'm still more of a reader than a writer, but I am so inspired by posts here, I feel if I stick around and pay attention I'll learn a lot. I can't do 5k in 30 mins, and my first Parkrun I walked the first 5 minutes and was going to walk the last 5 too, but the finishing line was about 100 yards away, so I carried on shuffling! My time was 36.55 I think, but I'd still done 5k and didn't need carrying back, so I saw it as progress. Now, 5 weeks after graduation, I run for 40 mins twice a week (cos I could never get around the park any quicker and I've just got used to it), and 1 longer run on a Saturday. I add 10% of the previous weeks runs to my 40 mins. I think it should be 56 mins tomorrow. I don't measure distances as most do, I just use a basic digital watch to measure time. Strava tells me all the rest when I get home. I feel I put myself under too much pressure to keep going if I do it by distance. Each hill around here has it's own ups and downs (😉), but whether it's felt like a good run, bad run, very hilly or not quite so, I always know how long (timewise) I have left. It's always interesting to see what Strava says afterwards.

We all find our own way of progressing, and that includes consolidation because you're progressing development on the inside. 💪 However you do it, you're still journeying with friends. 👍

Thanks - yeah I have been lurking on the forum for a few weeks reading. I even posted a reply a few times and then deleted my reply before sending. I feel an allegiance to the C25K forum and want to keep posting there to show runners that you do keep running afterwards. But at the same time there is this forum designed for post C25Kers. Will figure out the right formula over time.

I think whilst not fast and not having much distance in my legs yet I definitely have the running bug. For some reason I keep getting up on my days off to run at stupid o’clock!! Long may it continue is all I can say.

It's good to keep posting in C25k too I think because of the encouragement you are to others. Happy running. ☺
